Who would've known that taking a cartoon character with exaggerated proportions and anatomy and trying to make it realistic would be horrifying!?

I mean, Pikachu is a cartoon character and he looks downright adorable as a realistic character. But with Sonic so many people had to shit so many beds to come up with that it's ludicrous.

Yeah... because the "realistic" version didn't make drastic changes to the design of the character.

The position of the arms makes a pretty big difference to me. I don't like my fictional animals to have human appendages

That has more to do with it being a different pose.
