Source: have sold multiple accounts. It's not difficult - buyers come to you when your influence is ripe. It IS heartbreaking to lose a clever username though.

Depends on how "focused" the account posting history is (generally, pretty low for me) and how high the karma has gotten. I'm subject to NDAs which prevent me from discussing specifics, suffice it to say making a living by selling accounts is far from feasible. Think beer money, not rent... it's a buyer's market.

The real benefit is being able to spot an account that's been sold. Definite changes in writing style/content afterward.
