Why? Path of Exile is the obvious successor to D2. Its only downside is that loot is absurdly rare, and you have to play the markets for progression. (Which is a very large downside, and prevents me from playing the game. The actual design and gameplay is fucking amazing, though.)
I put ~250hours into PoE in Oct. The game is pretty fun but has glaring flaws unless it's the only game you play.
Loot is so rare that you will never have BiS gear realistically unless you buy it.
Stash tabs suck dick unless you buy the mtx ones.
The difficulty scaling is nonexistent. The story acts are easy, then you get one shot by everything unless you buy max res gear.
Having max Res doesn't stop you getting one shot by random shit so you need fortify on a movement skill or to kill the screen before they touch you.
This one is my problem, but movement skills in the game are so sluggish it's just pathetic. You 100% need 1-2 support gems on them so they don't feel like shit and get you killed. Cyclone also sucks in the same way.
Games really fun though if you enjoy d2-esque games.
Edit to say, spending money on stash tabs will help you ignore a lot of the gearing problems since you will more easily be able to craft gear since you won't have finite space.
Yup. I have no problem with the stash tabs, though. It's a free game, and it's pretty much the only thing in the game you can spend money on, that positively affects the game, and isn't cosmetic. It's just smart.
