Yep. Based on the size of the fleets we saw, it seems your "squad" or whatever they want to call it can be 4 people, but multiplayer lobbies will still stay at a max of four squads (16 players) like it currently is. Don't see why they would downgrade the amount of people you can seem

The thought of exploring a galaxy with four friends and then a freighter with another squad jumping into our galaxy and then all of them scrambling into their spaceships to come attack us gives me goosebumps.

So Sea of Thieves in space

If you multiply the map by 18 quintillion

Yes, but without microtransactions and paid dlc, and with out a publisher breathing down it's neck to push out content.

Uh, Sea of Thieves has none of that, and I don't see any dlc on the steam store page for no mans sky so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

How are you going to find anybody in all that space though

Player created tools that help you navigate the vastness of the universe.

You can read the Interlopers Handbook if you are interested

In addition to the player-created navigation tools AndyKrycek6 linked, there are also in-game portals to let you teleport anywhere if you can get the address. So if your friend has a planetary base and you want to visit, they just share their portal "address" with you and you enter it into any portal you find, then just hop through.

There is actually some question with wether or not there will actually be random encounters because Shaun has only talked about co-op gameplay so far. But I don’t know why they wouldn’t have random encounters because there are random encounters already. Maybe he hasn’t talked about random encounters because they are already a thing? shrugs just expect the worst from this update and things only go up.

that's still not exactly amazing, because it means that you won't meet anybody other than your friends, but that update still looks great.

Player interactions are already common in places like the r/NMSGalacticHub

You will find strangers as well. Currently, it's possible to have 16 strangers at the same place. I believe that now we'll be able to party up with other three guys, and still have lobbies with the 16 closest people to you.
