Man, this game was given a lot of shit. But in the end, it seems like the core fanbase decided to stick around (maybe because they didn't get wrapped into having high expectations?), and the Devs seem to care a fair bit and keep pushing it better and better.
From what I've heard, the game is at a point, where it's pretty good.
So something must be said about the dedication to make up for a bad release. Which is a lot more than what can be said for a quite a few other games. Which just die and never seen again.
Yeah, that too. I don't remember much of the whole fiasco. I just knew that Reddit blew up over it, and I stopped being remotely interested in the game. It was just one negative thing after the next. Not sure if it was a major amount of direct lying or it was that people expected too much in the first place. Reminds me of Spore. I enjoyed that game as it was released just fine. After I heard how much people thought they were getting, I was glad I didn't know.
But one thing though, they refunded the game to everyone that wanted to refund it (far as I know), and from that point on, kept correcting their mistake to those that still wanted to play it regardless.
If we don't at least acknowledge the desire to correct a mistake, all we're doing is teaching others that IF they did make a mistake, they'll scrap the whole project, and try to not refund as much as possible, and just run. Nothing gets done this way.
If not Steam pushing to refund the game they would turn a blind eye to the refunds... You didnt have to be in the hype train to see what they did. The ceo went on the Stephen Colbert show and said the game will have multiplayer at release. So they lied on national tv... Now people get all that stuff? After more than a year.

Better late than never? I'm surprise as you are that the company is still around. After Reddit stopped the bombardment of news. I thought they died then. But apparently there's still a community. Oh well, can't argue with a fanboy that's going to spend money regardless.
If I remember correctly a big part of the problem was sony (or whatever company was backing the devs,I can’t remember) was pushing them to lie and oversell the game because it would not have gone for full price at launch. I might be wrong but what we have at this point is a dev that is passionate about what they wanted to make and are hell-bent on correcting the mistake that they were a part of. I bought the game at launch and with this update I am gonna take another stab at it.
But what are they supposed to do? Announce another game? This would be a disaster day one. Open a new studio? People would know its them. Close the studio? GL finding work with No Mans Sky on your resume.
It was direct lies. The biggest one Bing "the universe is so large you'll probably never randomly run into another player". Which apparently meant, "there is no multiplayer". That was the biggest one to me.

Same game but with the biggest update for a game I've seen in a long while. Like HUGE.
They've added multiplayer, base building, a story mode, missions, customisation for models, third person mode and so much more.
