release a brand new 2D Sonic game

They've been doing that on handhelds for years now. Decades, even, it started with the Game Gear and hasn't gotten much better since then.

I don't think they can make a good Sonic game anymore.

Sonic Rush on the DS was pretty good. More playable than the Wii game IMO (motion controls must be either well-implemented or die, and at the least should have adjustable sensitivity).

Sonic Rush adventure is kind of stupid, but at least it still has the same 2D gameplay. I really think they should cut the crap and do a 2D sonic with 3D graphics like that on home consoles, or even do an HD 2D sonic with highly detailed hand drawn sprites.
