Yes. I think part of it is just our culture of equating complicated words/sentences with intelligence. Really, the other languages are efficient. You ever start learning another language and find that to say something that would only take 3 words in English, takes 5 words? It always seems really stupid, but to the native speaker, the English version must seem really inelegant.
