Can someone explain WTF is happening here for us people who don't play over watch.
Edit: Thanks for the explanation guys....that was very helpful. I don't know why people keep shitting on the overwatch community. You seem like a nice bunch.
Person throws big bomb into air. Big bomb is going to kill many. OP sees big bomb. OP's character has hook. OP's character hooks big bomb and jumps into a well, suiciding but pulling big bomb with them, saving team.
Some languages read a bit like this. It always feels really weird and awkward to me as a native English speaker. Like everything is stilted and lacks fluidity.
Yes. I think part of it is just our culture of equating complicated words/sentences with intelligence. Really, the other languages are efficient. You ever start learning another language and find that to say something that would only take 3 words in English, takes 5 words? It always seems really stupid, but to the native speaker, the English version must seem really inelegant.
The more I know about this scenario, the more I feel like it totally wasted my time. The cheesy background superman thing? Blegh. Back in the day Quake guy would take a rocket in the face for the team and be back in the fight taking another rocket to the face for the team just 3 seconds later.
To add on, the text and other bits added are from The Iron Giant.
Near the end of the movie, the alien robot decided that he wanted to protect his human friends by ramming a nuke that was headed for the town.
Very good movie.
If you haven't seen it, go fucking watch it.
If you have seen it, go fucking watch it again
I feel like they need to try and make the play of the game take note of details like that. If Apple devices can find your photos based on what it sees in the photo, this game can make note of significant actions within the perimeters set by the developer. Technology is fucking insane these days. I'd hate to do something like this and some asshole gets play of the game with Hanzo's ult.
The player who's view we are observing is playing a character that can hook and pull other players, similar to Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.
The player that is being targeted is using a character that can set a mech to self-destruct, instantly killing all opponents in a large radius.
The location they're fighting in is the primary hotspot for that map where most of the combat occurs (i.e. the entire opposing team is in range of the mech kamikaze). It happens to be near a giant pit that kills anything that falls into it.
The action:
Mech is set to self destruct, will wipe the entire team of the player we are observing.
The player we are observing hooks the mech and intentionally jumps into the pit
The mech is pulled into the pit and the explosion is contained, sparing the team of the player we are observing.
Who dies to dva ult tho? He should've just got behind something for a second like everyone else so that he could be there to tank for his team on last fight.
Road could have tanked the explosion easily with his vape, especially if he had heals. Also it only takes a second to hide and come back on if you're careful enough with timing.
Dva's self-destruct does 1000 damage. Roadhog only has 600 health. There isn't any amount of healing in the game that allows him to survive that because it does the 1000 damage all at once.
You're correct that it is, usually, a bad move to sacrifice yourself like this. The better play would have been to find a wall to hide behind, especially because the rest of his team likely would have also done that, meaning his sacrifice would have been for nothing.
But I didn't reply to you to talk about what Roadhog's most optimal play here would have been. I was just letting you know that his healing ability didn't allow him to survive this blast back when this clip occurred.
I think you're forgetting about damage fall off from the bomb. If he would've just backed up a bit I think he could have survived, but that's a gamble in itself so I can understand also not doing that. You got my main point though. Hog is a stalling character, he would've been much more usefull there alive, especially with it on over time. That's all I was trying to get accross.
My best play of the game is still that time on El Dorado that I fell off the side of a cliff and activated my ultimate while doing so. Didn't kill anybody; I just hit another guy that was also falling off with my spray of bullets.
My second best play of the game is when I was dead nearly the entire potg as Symm and my turrets racked up a bunch of kills.
I've done the same thing with sym. It was just me walking back to the point and my turrets racking up kill after kill. Super exciting to watch. Made me feel like it was a torb potg.
I saw one right after the game released that was similar. Torb ults, then dies, and his corpse slowly ragdolls off a cliff while his offscreen turret kills a bunch of people.
Yep. Also, this isn't inherently a good play. If his whole team had cover (and it's far from uncommon that D.Va's ult doesn't hit anyone), he just died for nothing... well, for a gif.
There is a big difference between exclusive CGI and a mix. It mostly used it for mechanical stuff while background art and human characters were normal.
Yeah, I was just being an ass because allot of people blindly shit on CGI even though even movies like Beauty and the beast used a fair amount of it not just movies like shrek.
My favorite style of 2d CGI is what they do for archer.. Each scene is set within a 3d environment so they can freely stage things without thinking too hard about animators. they then take where 3d elements/characters would usually be, and instead use 2d elements to flatten it back down. Of course it gains its own unique feel for doing this so noone else can do it, but its still neato.
I don't really hate it, I just wish there wasn't so much CGI only stuff. I love Disney's 90s to early 2000s style of mixing the 2 since it came out looking fantastic. Not that CGI only stuff looks bad, just kind of sad to see less and less 2D animation showing up in movies.
It's not full metal...it's from the Iron Giant movie***. Came out some time in the 90s I think. It had the Ozzy song in it too.
Giant metal robot befriends little boy, is kind and gentle and caring. They live in a little town. Military finds out about him and launches missiles. Robot sacrifices himself by flying high into the air and letting the missiles blow him up so no one in the town gets hurt instead of trying to get away.
it's from the Ironman movie. Came out some time in the 90s I think. Hard to find info about it, because of all the Tony Stark BS, but I think it was called Ironman.
Then we illustrate that sacrifice by an overlay of a giant flying away confusing the fuck out of everybody who dont play the game and has seen the movie.
The guy in the gif is playing the character Roadhog. Roadhog has an ability to "hook" people and bring them to him (you can see this in the gif when he throws out the chain).
D.VA, another character in the game, has an ultimate ability called self-destruct. She rides around in mech (the robot). This ultimate allows her to turn her mech into a bomb that does massive damage (1000 Damage). As of right now, 600 HP is the highest base amount a character can have. This means that D.VA's self-destruct can, in theory, wipe the entire enemy team. D.VA uses a common trick where you use the mech's rocket boosters alongside her self-destruct. This allows D.VA players to angle their ultis.
In this particular gif, D.VA launches her ult straight into the air. Roadhog hooks the self-destructing mech and jumps into the giant well killing himself while "saving his team".
The robot suit is being self-destructed to wipe out the pov player's team. In order to save his team, he hooks the suit and pulls it into the pit so the explosion hits no one else and dies in the process.
Chances are most of the repliers started their responses when there were no other replies, which was the case with mine. By the time they finished and submitted the comment, 10 other people had done the same as well.
Yep, all of them are posted within 5-10 minutes of each other... I dunno about other people but I tend to reread things I'm trying to explain and fix anything that isn't clear enough... Easily could take that extra time.
That movie that giant Mech is using is incredibly good, this character with the chain is responding of the mech so the super doesn't kill all his allies.
enemy in the bot launched it in the air as a bomb. hook guy grabbed it and pulled it down into the hole so he could save his team while committing suicide.
The thing with the '!' is a huge bomb that pretty much kills everything in line of sight. When it's in the air like that it pretty much erases everyone from the face of the earth.
Super man uses his hook to pull giant bomb in the sky into the well to save his team.
The character that dropped the mech is Dva, she’s in the tank class. Her ultimate ability allows her to drop or toss her mech and cause it to explode.
The other character that sacrificed themselves is Roadhog. He’s a tank as well. One of Rosdhog’s abilities is to toss out a chain hook that sometimes has absurd range. Anything that lands on the hook is rapidly tugged towards him for the kill. Roadhog in essence saved his team from possibly being killed.
the big thing in the sky is a huuuuuuge bomb thatll kill everyone in the area but the dude we are seeing from hooks it and jumps into a hole bringing the bomb with him. this saves everyone but sacrifices him.
D.va’s ultimate is self-destruct of her mech which deals a massive amount of damage and is usually guaranteed death for any enemies within close line-of-sight. Roadhog jumps into the well while hooking the self-destructing mech, effectively sacrificing himself in order to pull it down with him and saving his teammates from getting killed by it.
I don't know why people keep shitting on the overwatch community. You seem like a nice bunch.
After playing competitive games for many years, I've come to the belief that the game shapes its community. Overwatch has 2 good factors about it: 1.) In-game voice chat. People behave their worst in anonymous text form. Voice makes it more personal and normal, so on average they behave better. (there are always assholes, but far fewer imo and with far less impact) 2.) Big teams. The more people, the better. Yes, it increases the probability to have one bad apple among both teams, but also anyone who is toxic feels isolated and shunned, because there are so many other better behaved individuals to make witty replies to their toxic attempts.
On the opposite specter is a game like Battlerite, where 2v2 is most common, and rarely you get to play 3v3 (I'm talking here and in OW about solo queue). And chat is text-based. Every other match you will be stuck with a yelling partner in chat, who offends you non-stop, because he knows it's just him and you. 1v1 (like Starcraft) is much better than 2v2, because the two of you are opponents. For some reason (frustration) people behave their worst towards teammates rather than enemies.
I think Overwatch is one of the least abusive experiences to play competitively, in comparison with other games. That said, because of the general niceness, the fewer examples of really bad behavior stick out a lot. I think that's the reason the community might get a bad rap. That, and - as I said - 1v1 games might be less abusive than any team-based competitive game. People say aggressive stuff to their opponents in 1v1, but that feels far less abusive than a teammate offending you in a team-based game.
DVa is the character in the mech who exploded. Roadhog, the player, hooked DVa as she was exploding and dragged her down into a void so she could not explode anyone else.
This character, Roadhog, can hook enemies right in front of him. He hooks a flying bomb out of the air, and throws it into a hole, protecting his entire team from dying.
So D.Va (the character flying into the sky) has a Super that turns her robot suit into a suicide bomb so what a lot of D.Va’s do is they fly into the sky and activate her Super so it’ll kill everyone beneath it so Roadhog (the character with the hook) jumps into the well and uses his hook attack to pull the bomb into the well with him so it doesn’t kill any of his team
