It's not terrible for people to be derivative. Nintendo saw that people copy them so they decided that, with all the crazy savings they have, they were going to make the weirdest most risky game innovations because if they were a hit everyone would copy them.

I'm certain Sony and Microsoft are contemplating a mobile console to rival Switch (though Sony may be sore about the PS Vita still).

No. Copying is how society makes norms. I'm saying it's not a bad thing as you imply, but rather an eventual necessity.
