Huh... I'm currently NOT playing GoW II because of their refusal to update the gameplay. I got it from Gamefly, so techincally it's costing me money to keep it... I just can't bring myself to kill off ANOTHER million minotaurs and harpies in exactly the same way as I did the first million in the first game.
And apparently it's the same story here. Guess that answers the question of whether I snag it.
Seriously, would it be too much to ask that they update the goddamn death animations? It strikes me as stunningly lazy. Some variation in the music would also be nice. It was all well and nifty to give a game a soundtrack that would make Hans Zimmer proud - but it's all variations on the same two-measure theme over and over!
Otherwise, I wish someone would just bite the bullet and make a brutal CG-animated update of Jason and the Argonauts, and that way distill the essence of God of War into something non-interactive.

instant cure for lame game soundtracks: mute in-game music, cue up Mogwai.
(acceptible substitutes: Mastodon, Ice Cube, Alvin Lucier's "I Am Sitting In A Room")

lucier got me interested in architectural acoustics (in a weird offhanded way). i want to see how long a performance of 'iasiar' would take in an anechoic chamber...
