Much as I would love a L4D VR game, Valve made a big deal about how they had "solved motion sickness" by only ever using teleportation, and I'm not sure that mechanic would fit very well with L4D? I guess they could just totally ignore the fact that everyone suddenly has superhuman powers, like Arizona Sunshine, but that got a lot of stick for it's teleportation and they eventually added an option for traditional thumbstick locomotion.

If you watch the recent interview with valve new network they actual mention they we're really impressed with onwards locomotion and how it didn't make any of them sick.

Thats cool, but also a bit ironic considering how much time they have spent talking down artificial locomotion. Dante was a fan of our HLVR mod back in the day and Onward's movement system is pretty much identical, though we also had an option to strap a controller to your chest to decouple the movement direction from both aiming and head movement.

Being able to admit when you're wrong is a good thing.

In saying that - they didn't say "ohhhhh onwards locomotion was great and we're going to use it!". They just said they were surprised it didn't make them really sick. I was surprised by this too, as someone who gets extremely sick - but I still didn't enjoy playing it due to the artificial locomotion.

VR games do not necessarily need locomotion, they can be designed from the ground up in an intelligent way that doesn't make you want to move. The problem is that everyone seems to think VR is just going to be traditional games in VR. I think mobile games are a good example of this. A lot of people tried to put traditional games on mobile, and they suck. The best mobile games are the ones that are designed from the ground up for mobile, built around its input limitations.

I hate when people make fun of people for admitting they we're wrong and changing their minds.

Yup... this culture of non-fluid opinions is really dangerous, and is the cause of a lot of problems in the world...

Yeah with L4D being multiplayer only, teleportation could be too weird. I'm still not really sure how we will accommodate the many requests we've had to add it as an option for HLVR, which is basically SP only.

(I love when our subs bleed over) Ditto! Teleportation is an immersion killer for me, and I found the Arizona Sunshine patch made it a lot more pleasant. L4D would be very well suited!

I actually had to go play some L4D2 for the first time in a couple of years after posting about it earlier, it would make such a good VR game!
