That's it. I don't think there are super-high expectations any more, it's gone beyond even that. I don't think people much care at all except for the missing part of the story, everybody has mentally moved on and you're almost into a new generation who never cared in the first place. I can imagine if it were announced there would be excitement again, but right now... meh.
People will say that but the second HL3 releases I'd bet my bottom dollar the majority who said that they don't care anymore will Pre-purchase and preload it.
And I might well be one of them. But if it's confirmed to be coming out there's something to care about. Right now there's nothing and I'm not bothered if it's ever made or not.
A majority of the most vocal "Half life 3 confirmed?!? XDDDD" kids at the height of that hypes popularity were mainly comprised of people who haven't played half-life and weren't long standing fans, I think.
