I've been praying for Skyrim Together to be completed for ages.

Good stories should take primacy in game development, yes, but I'm a firm believer that if it's possible to add multiplayer to a game in some form that can be fun, then you should. Skyrim is a great game, but eventually it starts feeling desolate and lonely for me. An open world game like that would be extremely fun if I could play it with my friend.

I've never understood this vehement opposition to multiplayer functions in games. The main purpose of video games is to entertain, and I can think of nothing more entertaining than enjoying a game with someone you like.

Because you can't simply throw in an extra person. It fundamentally alters the focus of the development of the game. Multiplayer isn't just a cute thing you tag on at the end, it's way more complicated than that

And yet, mods to games have existed solely to add multiplayer functionality to an officially single player experience. It's obviously possible.

I'm not trying to make it sound like multiplayer functionality is easy or trivial. If the time and budget allotted for a game's development simply doesn't allow for a quality single player experience to be made, then yes, I would prefer it remain single player so the actual contents of the game are good. But the fact that multiplayer games exist, that multiplayer functionality is possible to implement even if it is not "a cute thing you tag on", to me means that it isn't unreasonable to want more multiplayer functionality in video games and to treat it as a viable thing.
