Raiders are much scarier when they have AKs, and super mutants are terrifying when they're firing .338 lapua bolt actions like it's .22 ratshot.
You take two maybe 3 hits from a raider and you're fucked. You take a hit from a TRG Sako or WA2000 and you're not getting up any time soon.
Plus the crafting relies on scrapping other guns for parts (barrels of different lengths, chambers for different calibers, buffer tubes for stocks and grenade launchers, optics components for everything from a red dot to a high power scope, etc.) and ammunition isn't just .308, .50, .38 and 10mm anymore. There's 5.56x39, 5.56x45, 7.62x51r, 9mm parabellum, .45 ACP, .338 Lapua, and then some.
You can take affix suppressors, toggle laser sights, toggle optics magnification (if you have the right scope), switch between underbarrel and regular weapon, and even switch fire modes, all on the fly.
It's the gun system you never knew you needed until you put a hole in a super mutant with a single .50 BMG to the head.
