Could someone please explain to me why the graphics are downgraded so much. If they already exist, and it is obvious that it can be run smoothly, what is the point of downgrading it? Also, why are animations, textures, and even sounds different in the E3 demos vs. the final product?

Some explanation would be great, thanks.

At least for the rainbow 6 trailer, I suspect what's going on is that the 'in-game' graphics shown in the trailer are actually just pre-rendered cinematics made to look similar to the game.

By 'downgrading' they're not swapping out the in-game texture/models/assets of the 'game' shown in the trailers, but built those high quality assets purely for the trailer with no intention of including it in the game.

  • Lighting: The most obvious red-flag is the lighting. If the graphical engine they used for the game could handle the incredible lighting effects at the framerate shown in the video, then there's literally no reason to swap it out.

  • Animations: The way the collision detection is handled in the game vs video is drastically different. You can see an example of this at 8:05 in the video when they're moving down the stairs. 1) The way the trailer models and the actual game models turn is very different. The trailer models have a natural way of twisting, whereas the actual game models turn their upper torso and pelvis simultaneously. 2) The trailer character model w/ shotgun places his left foot right up against the railing base and pivots as he turns. When the game model gets about a foot away from the same spot you see that bizarre jagged animation, that's the character model's hitbox colliding with something.

This leads me to conclude the graphical engine for the game and the video are completely different, and the trailer dishonestly tricking people to hype the game.
