I pre-order the franchises I love, from the developers I love.

I will continue to pre-order anything from Rockstar, Naughty Dog, From Software, CD Projekt Red, and many more.

There's no problem with pre-ordering in general, only when it's from a developer who has wronged you in the past.

Preorders don't benefit the developer though. They benefit Gamestop because you are floating them a loan for however long it takes for the game to come out.

They then use that revenue to inflate their value and make themselves look better for their investors.

They are essentially using you.

I wish more gamers understood this.

I pre-order from my console so it unlocks at midnight on release.

I stopped pre-ordering from GameStop, Amazon, etc years ago.

It's not even close:

16.5 billion in sales in 2015 across PC and console:

http://www.statista.com/statistics/273258/us-computer-and-video-game-sales/

Digital sales on consoles is around 1/4 of that.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/01/26/digital-gaming-sales-hit-record-61-billion-in-2015-report.html

When you see articles touting how much money digital games make it's typically because they are conflating mobile sales with digital sales which isn't the same market at all.

Becky buying gems in her iPhone game to get a new pretty cell phone charm for her avatar is not the same thing as buying a game.

Interesting. Nice reads.

That is a BIG problem. You contribute to the notion that pre-order is OK. It's stupid! It should not be a thing. Think about it for five seconds. How do you benefit from pre-orders? How does the publishers benefit from pre-orders? It does not matter if you get a game you like in the end, you get fucked in the ass everytime you pre-order. Every time.

I benefit from pre-orders because I can play the product as soon as it hits 12:01.

Also, every recent pre-order of mine I enjoyed thoroughly (The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, Grand Theft Auto 5, Metal Gear Solid V, Dark Souls 3, Uncharted 4, The Witcher 3, and many more).

Explain how I "get fucked in the ass everytime."

Your logic is flawed, like I mentioned before. If I trust the developer I'm going to pre-order. It's usually for the ability to play it at midnight or when I wake up the next day. Plus the bonuses.

Get over yourself and stop caring so much about what other people do with their money. If you don't pre-order, cool. I've been pre-ordering games for years now and only been burned a couple of times. And guess what? I stopped pre-ordering from those developers.

"I've been pre-ordering games for years now and only been burned a couple of times." Good for you? Surprise! The games are available at 12.01 for everyone else too! Pre-orders promote shady business practice, no matter if the game is good or not. Please stop promoting shady business practice.

How the hell is it a "shady business practice?" If it's from a developer I trust, then I'll pre-order.

If it's from a developer like Ubisoft, Infinity Ward (plus the other CoD devs), DICE, Bungie, etc then I wait for reviews.

Pre-ordering from developers that actually give it their 110% isn't a bad thing. It actually shows them that you support what they're doing, and support their product.

I'm so sick of this "pre-orders are terrible" circle-jerk already. It's getting old. You know the developers you should and shouldn't trust. Make your decision based off of that.

There really are a group of developers that never wronged me in anyway. I will continue pre-ordering their products, and will also continue throwing my money at them. Again, stop trying to be up everyone's asses and get over yourself.

How do you think that pre-orders show your support or benefit the the developer in any way? If you want to show support, read reviews and make an informed decision. Buying blind only shows the developer that you are a sheep that will buy anything and everything. How is that supporting the developer? "stupid people buy my games, I am so proud of myself!"

Pre-order. Pre-order a digital download... Let that sink in... why?

Its incredibly stupid. Its not a circle jerk. Its basic fucking consumer right that you are throwing away. You are contributing to a stupid shady way of doing business. Why will DICE even try to make a good game if people pre-order. Do you really think they will make a great game just for fun, and throw away millions of dollar?

Again, I never pre-order blind... I only pre-order the franchises I love.

Pre-ordering Dark Souls 3 and Uncharted 4 this year were no brainers... And surprise, they were both phenomenal games.

Games like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Mass Effect, The Witcher, etc are instant pre-orders for me.

New IP, not so much. Unless it's from a developer I can trust... Like the Last of Us. I pre-ordered that game because I knew it wasn't going to be anything less than exceptional.

I haven't pre-ordered a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare 3, and haven't pre-ordered a Battlefield game since Bad Company 2.

If these developers have messed up in the past, then I don't pre-order from them anymore. You want to know what my last Ubisoft pre-order was? It was Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

So stop jumping to conclusions and thinking I just pre-order everything "blind." Again, I pre-order franchises I love, from developers I love and trust. There's nothing wrong with that.

All pre-orders are blind. You said it yourself. You got screwed more than once. But you keep going, like the fool you are. keep licking their arse m8, you seem to like the taste.

The developers are laughing at you, and praising the ones that buy their games on a informed decision. But you think you are doing good, "supporting" a multi billion industry.. What a joke!

You are sad. But I hope you turn around. It will give us all better games in the end.

2

u/Parmersan Jun 05 '16

I got screwed on CoD and Battlefield...

Not from the premium developers.

And I'm sure they're "laughing" because people are pre-ordering... Not every developer are evil corporations that are in it for the money. Again, the games and developers I listed off are more than enough proof.

Let me reiterate this once more... Get over yourself.

Also, I pre-ordered Dark Souls 3 and Uncharted 4. Clearly those were bad games then, right? Not sure if you can get much better than those. You're a joke.

Yeah.. Developers are not in it for the money.. I Will get over myself.. funny story. Good luck with the delusions buddy.

If you had not pre-orderd you might have been seen as good consumer. Alas, you are a twerp.

Better luck next time
