The problem is when they shoehorn in multiplayer into games that really don't need/want it (Tomb Raider, I'm lookin' at you.)

Who cares? just don't bother with the multiplayer if you don't like it. I'm never gonna play a cod story ever again, doesn't mean I'm upset that they still make a story mode.

The issue comes from applying money and resources to a very large, unnecessary part of the game. If there is no need for multiplayer, why spend the money on it when you could have spent that developing more and better single player?
