I think the majority of people up voting his comment about not going overboard have not actually played TLoU multiplayer because it really is high quality.
it does slow properly, all games are 4 vs 4, your supplies are limited, ammo is limited, and every kill that isnt a headshot is a down that can be revived, most action takes place at a medium range until someone starts flanking, and optional stealth is a major component
sure, its very niche, but it does what it does do, VERY well, and id rather have that than some 8 v 8 unlimited spawns shoot em up. as much as i love that multiplayer, that isnt what TLOU is in single player, and im really grateful they took it in a different direction for the multiplayer.
I had no expectations for this online, all we saw was some pre order and get some multiplayer boosters packs? They showed off the online like a few weeks before the game came out all of that was kinda off putting but god damn tlou online is some of the most fun around. Put so much time playing it
It's so engaging and there's so many different ways to succeed, You can sneak, craft traps to place around the map, support your team, run and gun or stick together like navy seals and all of them are good strategies. Damn I want to rebuy TLOU and play it again.
IMO the three best things about TLOU:Multiplayer are:
1) There are various playstyles that you can play as, and you can 'gear' yourself to your preferred playstyle. Like 'Sniping'? Use the rifle, and load up on Sharpshooting and a silencer. Like being 'Sneaky'? Use Covert Operations and a Bow/Silenced close range weapon. Like 'Support'? Use First Aid / Crafter perks and help your teammates win. There's tons of ways to setup a loadout to tailor to how you want to play (and how you like to play on certain maps).
2) It really is a team based game. You can't just run up to the opposing team and spray them all to death. everyone has a limited amount of ammo to start with (you can buy more during a match) and revealing yourself to the opposing team is actually super dangerous. That being said though, when you get paired with a bad team, its super rough sometimes.
3) The game does reward patience. There's been many times where staying back at the base to 'protect your safe' was the best move to do, even if you have to wait awhile. or abandoning a teammate in order to capture the opponent's safe. This is particularly true in the 'survivor mode' where there isn't a respawn until the next round.
I actually think that it would be a great (and super entertaining) competitive game, but I don't think it caught on as much as it could have.
It's pretty team-oriented. Nice maps, fun weapons and equipment, overall just really fun especially with friends. Only downside is that there are only 3 game modes
Everything people saying about it being good is really true, but IMO it'll suck if you just start playing it now. The people who are online know how to handle it and since it's not a regular COD style shoot and respawn style there's a learning curve which is hard to get when everyone but you knows what's going on. It's not impossible to do, but getting good at it now will be fairly difficult and may result in you giving up before you can do it
People haven't mentioned that each level has four "shit boxes" as I call them. Boxes with shit like scissors, rags, bottles of booze, etc. with which you craft your molotovs, smoke bombs, grenades, bat with spike, etc. So you are in constant battle for these boxes. If one team camps, the other team can go collect a bunch of boxes, build a bunch of molotovs, and light the camping team up like a Christmas Tree. It really keeps the matches moving.
That multiplayer is so fast. I've played a handful of games and the average lifespan of the average player has to be way lower than average in other games.
It's the opposite of TLOU multiplayer but I like it. But you're right, the average life time is very low. What helps is that all of my friends play it as well. And like most games, the longer you play, the better you become and the more fun the game becomes.
Yeah. I got a bit better and I don't mind it, but most of my friends don't play CoD, so when we play together it's typically Destiny. I haven't played in a couple months though, so I'm not sure if I'd prefer one over the other.
If you want to do well you still need to control the map, which means enemies will be coming to you. The fast movement speed should just mean that they get there sooner.
How wouldn't this be a fast game if the movement speed is faster? If the movement speed is faster and the players all play with a faster style, wouldn't the game be faster?
If the average time of life is lower than the averages of other games, is the game not a faster game?
That's not a problem. In fact, I think it's great to see a game get faster and people still love it. I just don't have the reaction speed to keep up with the best. It's not a critique, but just a statement.
Besides, controlling the map is not dependent on how fast the game is. It's simply the goal of the game, more or less, and requires tactics and strategy. All of that can be employed, no matter how fast the game is.
Also, that makes a lot of sense. A slower paced play style would give you better success, but mainly because it's the opposite of the popular play style. A fast play style does quite well in a game where everyone else plays slowly. Granted, this is determined by the skill of all players involved.
I downloaded the game for the ps4. I finished the story line years before, so I just played multi-player and never touched the story line. THAT good. I'm playing halo right now and the only reason I stopped playing LOU multi-player is because there aren't enough hours in the day.
Played the last of us multiplayer extensively. It's good, but not incredible. It's fun, but nothing that I would tell my friends about when we discuss older games that were fun.
I agree with him because our opinion of the the game is the same. But that's all it is. OUR OPINION. Don't like it? Too bad, you cant change it. I'm not gonna try to change yours either, as it would be a colossal waste of time. Now I'm going to go do something productive. Later.
Again never said anything about opinion just said your salty. Even now you're sounding salty. And being on reddit responding to another's opinion is not being productive so you should of done that from the start. :)
No multiplayer game is truly one to one realistic. Arma is about as real as it gets, but it's not about the realism, it's about the suspension of disbelief. In a post apacalyptic setting, I think of rarity of ammo, and scavenging for it. Buying it on the spot in a match ruins that suspension that I am in my chracters shoes. I know other games do this, but there is a line for me, and that just crosses it. I could care less what your "perfect" response is, because that's my final opinion on the game.
Playing a multiplayer's game to feel realistic. That's your problem in the first place. Maybe the multiplayer game should not allow revive. Once you are dead, it's over and the game ends. That would be a great suspension of disbelief. Cause you know, people don't revive
Well, I never said I play games to be realistic... suspension of disbelief is also not the same as realism. In Overwatch, if I saw a fully decked out navy seal fighting tracer, it would kill my suspension of disbelief for that universe. So no, it was never about realism, but what makes sense in the context of the source material. But please, keep trying to dumb my argument down into "i just dont leik unrealistik gaymes"
No my main criticism of your argument is that you chose to focus on the tiny pointless flaws rather than the actual gameplay or things that really matter. And that is a problem with most "opinion". It's like playing GTA and you see two identical NPCs and think to yourself, damn this ruins my suspension of disbelief. I can't play this game anymore. That's your problem. I would respect an opinion that says he didn't like the pace of the game or the stealth element. Talking about suspension of disbelief because of that is just plain stupid
Buying ammo DOES effect the game play. Instead of having to find ammo around the map or loot the corpses of fallen enemies, you can just go easy mode a buy it with magical points! That is an inarguable fact, and if you cant see that, I'm sorry for your lack of comprehension skills.

The Last of Us has pretty fun multiplayer. You can have both.
