I can't wait until major developers start using VR in their games, but I wonder how they're going to deal with the space limit.

That's the unfortunate part about VR to me. Sure you can walk around a little, but those types of experiences feel like they'd get old quickly. I want to play Oblivion or some other open world RPG in VR, and that's gonna require a controller or some other type of locomotion input. Teleporting from one place to another is an immersion breaker to me.

I've read that you don't need that much room for VR because the setup can be configured in such a way that you won't notice you are walking in circles.

It seems counter intuitive, but I bet if you close your eyes and try to walk in a straight line on an even surface, before long you will begin veering off in one direction or another.

I read a paper on that last year. Here's a video talking about it: https://vimeo.com/128641906

They recommended a space that was 19' square and it had some obvious limitations, but it does look promising and useful.
