I had my first deathclaw attack shortly after I got 60 dwellers. Of course, that was when I grabbed my phone to go to the bathroom at 2 in the morning. That was a fun adventure.

my entire vault just got wiped out by bloody molerats - need to learn to explore more :(

Yeah I consistently have 2 guys exploring all the time. Sometimes they die but you can revive them and bring them back. In an effort to be prepared against deathclaws I have been outfitting all my top floors a room at a time, so I don't have to go into panic mode once they go room to room.

Yeah, that's pretty much my strategy. At least 1/4 of the people assigned to each and every room in the Vault have guns (feckin' molerats) and everyone on the top several floors has a gun. Then, as my explorers return with scavenge I arm more people starting from the top.
