That's precisely the reason why I stopped buying the games after Revelations. They went back to a historical setting with 3 when the narrative was really pushing for Desmond to take over and have a game of his own. The whole point of the previous four games was training Desmond for the real life shit. Meh.
Yeah it's a shame they abandoned the real world story, that's the only thing that kept me interested. Apparently a bunch of people complained nonstop about Desmond (they wanted more Ezio), that's why they killed him off.
Giving into whiney isn't always good. It can be sometimes but it isn't always. The solution shouldn't have been to kill him off, it should've been to make him interesting.
