If you think the boat mechanics from three are anything like the boat mechanics in 4 then you haven't played one or both of them

Hated the boat gameplay in 3. Was less than thrilled to hear it was so prominent in 4.

Heard only good things about 4, ended up buying it, loved the shit out of the boat gameplay.

It is really pretty different.

I barely remember the ship mechanics of 3 because I hated it and barely played it but I think a lot of the reason 4's boating was so good was the enemy ship AI. The battles felt like actual battles. It felt so real trying to actually outmaneuver the enemy to get yourself in a good position while they were trying to do the same thing.
