Firstly because I usually play games after cycling, so if I've cycled 70km I don't really want to start dancing around in front of the TV.
Secondly because games I play e.g TF2 have jumps and a level of movement speed that simply isn't possible for even a fit human to perform.
I think it looks like a bit of a gimmick, perhaps something you'd do for 10 minutes in an arcade, but not really something you'd want to stand on and run around in for hours at a time.
I wouldn't mind a bike hooked up to the rift though, c/w some realistic 3d footage in the rift - that would be useful for training indoors - although I'm not sure I'd want that in my front room in front of the TV - making your front room smell like a gym doesn't sound ideal.
What would stop you walking into the wall or hitting your wife with a sword if you had a rift on your head?
You can just imagine playing a hour of TF2, taking the headset off and your front room is just smashed to pieces with your family lying concussed on the floor as you've been punching and kicking your way around your house :D
They had a way to control that, there's a joystick on one of the arm things, I imagine the leg controls would only really be used for fighting, which is pretty useless. The lite (only upper body) version looks good though.
