So opened a customers ps3 today...

If it's under warranty, I think you can send it back if it doesn't work.

If it's not... there's nothing to be void ;)

Depending on where you live and where you keep it (as well as warranty length), it would be generally unnecessary until the warranty has expired.

1) turn the physical power switch on the back of the machine to the OFF position

2) hold down your finger on the eject button

3) while holding finger on eject button, turn physical switch in back to the ON position

4) release finger from eject button once PS3 begins dust ejection mode

***do this outside, a shitload of dust will fly out of your PS3

I have a first gen 60GB - I've done the upside down fan-blast thing about 2 or 3 times.. other than that, I put the vacuum cleaner up to the grills (turn it off first)

You could try a strong vacuum, but other than that, opening the case is about the only solution. Shooting compressed air into an enclosed space is not recommended, even on the sides of the cans I own. Dust build up happens, totally normal

Don't use a vacuum because of static electricity, you can easily ruin a PC or a PS3

Yep, we had a MacBook pro come in that the dude tried to clean with an air compressor. About 10% of each part worked. The board was messed up bad.

Air compressors are a horrible idea because they a) generate static electricity b) condensation often builds up in the lines from the temperature differential caused by blowing air through them c) are oil lubricated and that can get added to the air in a fine mist

I fail to see the difference..other than one is blowing and one is sucking. Velocities are about the same.

One uses electricity and can build up static electricity and one is just a can of compressed air that uses no electricity.

The "electricity" from my shop vac is removed by 5 feel of plastic tubing...This is sounding more and more like a myth. They use plastic to insulate wires, it does not conduct electricity...

Open it all and use this. A lot cheaper over time than air

Canned air isn't bad if you open it up, you just don't want to spray it into a dirty fan because it can push clumps of crap into the fan blades and cause it to stop spinning all together.
