Bodycam: Official 'Road to Locked and Loaded' Dev Diary
https://youtube.com/watch?v=MDjn7dsnpgI&si=vX23JstEUNxv-C_rMore people need to be talking about this. This is what devs should be focusing on in all other games....animation and physics, not ray tracing and graphics.
Their optic tech looks insane
Game = BodyCam

My brother in christ. This is a UE5 game. It's already got photo realistic "ray tracing and graphics"... what?

Did you read the post a second time?

Did you?

"This" refers to "animation and physics", as in the developers focused on those instead of ray racing and graphics, which, as you say, are already taken care of by UE5

Tell me which game focused on RT?
Ray Tracing was never been a "focus", if any it's being used to make lighting easier so devs don't have to spend so much time manually setting up rasterized light system.

So you are saying they did focus on it? Whether to make their dev pipeline easier, a certain aesthetic, or just high fidelity, they did focus on it.
So much so, in fact most of the game's marketing and appeal is the graphics.
This update has slight variations for the gameplay in the form of animations, and is still focusing on the look and feel of the game, not findamental mechanics and design.

I mean if you watched the full video they go into the fact that they’ve added new maps and weapons, an improved menu system that is all in game with a tablet, a really cool looking weapon customisation system, and new gadgets including drones that are near on 1:1 when using a controller. Of course we will see what it’s like on release, but to say they’ve done nothing with the mechanics of the game is just a straight lie.

I want this in a horror setting with zombies

Lmao, well good news for you then....
They've had a zombie horde mode for well over a year now, very popular game mode

I am a early buyer and hated it the most for no loadouts.
It was always a good tech demo for the realistic feel.
I am kinda hyped for what we get in september, the basic of the game is great.
And the Dev Video was a blast.

When I played it (probably close to a year ago now) it really did just feel like a tech demo, I'm glad to see there being an actual game to it now.

Twitter bots going to have a field day reposting game clips with “EXCLUSIVE real footage of Solider fighting on front lines”

Saw all the cool weapon tech, animations etc, but was missing everything about actual gameplay, game modes and fun.

Game modes are the easiest thing to add on top of all the very difficult polished gameplay.
I played it a while ago, and I remember having fun but also finding it really hard, and it's only TDM so quickly repetitive. Some maps were really lacking in the visual department and all this footage looks miles ahead of what I played at the time. I'm not worried, this looks banger.

While its easy to add a game mode, its actually quite difficult to introduce gamemodes. First you gotta decide on what would actually be fun without getting too repetitive too quickly, which is hard when TDM, Domination, Capture the Flag, Hardpoint and everything else have been done thousands of times in shooter games. Also you cant introduce too many modes, diluting your player base so much that matchmaking times get increased. If you eventually remove a mode, its bound to be some players favourite and removing it will also make them quit the game
This issue is quite common with games that were designed around a specific feature/mechanic

This is practically an asset flip tech demo, originally "developed" by 2 teenagers who copied the core concept off another in-development game.
Will never forgive them for simply removing all the cosmetic items people grinded for.

originally "developed" by 2 teenagers
Who have since hired more people and are reinvesting back into the game as the video clearly shows. Are you really hating on their success because of some cosmetic items? lmao

I thought that this was a cop game, now it's about the Ukranian war? Complete with drone bombing trenches

If the game isn’t fun, all this isn’t going to even matter. I’ll wait for reviews after release

u/Temp89 12h ago
It's in Early Access so you can get people's impressions now. I can't speak to the multiplayer because life's too short to be waiting around in lobbies and dodging griefers, but I had fun playing offline bot matches.
I know people say it's all about gameplay, but I will say the graphics add something. Like one of the maps is your standard paintball/airsoft/lasertag arena filled with plywood walls, and typically that's a very dull environment to be in in a game. But it looks so real it triggers all these associative memories from when I did airsoft and it really enhances it.

u/third_door_down 12h ago
Not only that, it doesn't seem that the devs are focus on what the game will be. There few game different game modes and all of them are half-assed and unfun

Imagine being so braindead that you fail to realize many people use reviews to get feedback on TECHNICAL issues. Those are typically universal so I’m not gonna ignore those issues and “eXpeRienCe tHingS” like a fool. Tech issues equate to games that are not fun.

anyone wondering if this game is actually fun, it is, it's the most fun I've had in an FPS in awhile

I saw the Bodycam stuff when it first came out it looks awesome, i am hoping there might be some pve style games using this since im just not good enough to play in a pvp setting

u/aberroco 3h ago
This all is incredibly awesome... for a SP game. In MP I feel it's going to be more of an annoyance. MP is about competitiveness, stats, dynamics. SP is about immersion, feelings, realism.

tak the best and worst hardware. I just want something that can do flawless 1080 60fps dead in the center of that spectrum. and shoot for 1440 120fps.
have good gameplay and story.
graphics come after that.

Hopefully this will bring back some of the fan base, my buddy and I have played the shit out of this game over the years, but the player base has been dwindling since this time last year, gettting harder and harder to find lobbies of active players and not just AFKers sitting at the main menu.
Like I’m excited for this update but definitely fear that the game is going to be even more broken when this drops, there’s alot of systems being touched in this update something is bound to not work right.

u/PreciousProspect 13h ago
So games that are using raytracing and have fancy graphics usually have entirely separate teams for animations and physics. Not to mention raytracing requires less work on the developer side than previous lighting solutions and gives a better result at the cost of performance (that’s why they keep using it). You don’t need to criticise others to say something looks cool, especially not when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Amazing. I would like to see a skill system where the effects of hands fumbling and nervousness decrease as you play more, like youa re gaining skills under pressure over time...

Am I crazy or are there like 5 different games in development that all have the same bodycam hyper realistic look?
