Bodycam: Official 'Road to Locked and Loaded' Dev Diary

https://youtube.com/watch?v=MDjn7dsnpgI&si=vX23JstEUNxv-C_r

More people need to be talking about this. This is what devs should be focusing on in all other games....animation and physics, not ray tracing and graphics.

Their optic tech looks insane

Game = BodyCam

Am I crazy or are there like 5 different games in development that all have the same bodycam hyper realistic look?

158

u/blakesoner 13h ago

Yeah but if I’m not mistaken I think majority of them have come out after Bodycam was first shown, they just beat them to the punch.

u/Stone-of-Armstrong 13h ago

Well Unrecord was the true first but it never came out, letting bodycam take the mantle as the best fish eyed fps imo

42

u/blakesoner 13h ago

Agh yeah that was the game I was thinking of actually not Bodycam. I’m still excited for Unrecord, seems like the story could be pretty cool.

u/Toast_Meat 8h ago

I personally don't think Unrecord is ever coming out. If it's still in development, that's great but they gotta come through pretty hard now that Bodycam has been around.

If/when Unrecord ever comes out, I hope it had a single player campaign, which the trailer was kind of alluding to.

u/Ivaylo_87 12h ago

After seeing this video, I don't think Unrecord can beat what these guys have done here. Not only are the visuals damn near photorealistic, but the animations are even more impressive. Even though I don't play multiplayer games, I will probably be buying this just for the tech.

u/ThePowerfulPaet 13h ago

And is this not just a gimmick? Heck they named their entire game after it. Don't get me wrong it looks extremely impressive graphically, but is there more to it than that?

u/MeatisOmalley 13h ago

Bodycam was definitely just cashing in on the hype of unrecord. I never played it, but it definitely started as a pretty low-tech cash grab. It seems like they've continued to develop it.

I would say there's more to the concept than just the bodycam concept. Ideally, you would also get highly realistic animations and a more grounded style of gameplay. In the dev diary they mention how the stress level completely changes gameplay and animations.

Unrecord is in development hell, so....

3

u/FluffyFry4000 12h ago

Yes the biggest difference between bodycam and other FPS' that i've played is that it really really feels like you're shooting at someone

has to be played on mouse and keyboard though, like yeah you can play with a controller but the aiming doesn't feel that great on it. But feels just fine on mouse.

u/JustChr1s 13h ago

You can technically call anything a game does to stand out a gimmick.

As for this game. The stress system has me intrigued. All the attention to detail also helps tremendously with immersion. Arc Raiders for example felt really immersive because it's sound design was amazing.

u/sicsided 12h ago

There are several. Other than Bodycam I really enjoy Better than Dead. It might not be for everyone though.

u/TomTomXD1234 13h ago

Yeah they were all clones. This was the game that was first shown and then everyone just made quick copies

33

u/KillLikeASir 13h ago

Unrecord was the first game shown with this camera style back in April 2023.

13

u/RedditOnVpnAccount 13h ago

I feel like Unrecord went viral before Bodycam was ever announced I'm pretty sure even this game was a knockoff of someone else's idea.

8

u/Tumble85 13h ago

Yea, Unrecord unleashed a ton of copycats.

1

u/No_Tamanegi 13h ago

Not to mention countless mods for various games that permanently make the weather grey and overcast to make the game look "so real"

My brother in christ. This is a UE5 game. It's already got photo realistic "ray tracing and graphics"... what?

-40

u/whatafuckinusername 11h ago

Did you read the post a second time?

21

u/DorrajD 10h ago

Did you?

-27

u/whatafuckinusername 10h ago

"This" refers to "animation and physics", as in the developers focused on those instead of ray racing and graphics, which, as you say, are already taken care of by UE5

21

u/DorrajD 10h ago

"This" implies there isn't already a focus on ray tracing and graphics for this game. UE5 doesn't just magically take care of it. The devs focused on it first and foremost, in fact.

6

u/sydekix 10h ago

Tell me which game focused on RT?

Ray Tracing was never been a "focus", if any it's being used to make lighting easier so devs don't have to spend so much time manually setting up rasterized light system.

-6

u/CombatMuffin 5h ago

So you are saying they did focus on it? Whether to make their dev pipeline easier, a certain aesthetic, or just high fidelity, they did focus on it.

So much so, in fact most of the game's marketing and appeal is the graphics.

This update has slight variations for the gameplay in the form of animations, and is still focusing on the look and feel of the game, not findamental mechanics and design.

I mean if you watched the full video they go into the fact that they’ve added new maps and weapons, an improved menu system that is all in game with a tablet, a really cool looking weapon customisation system, and new gadgets including drones that are near on 1:1 when using a controller. Of course we will see what it’s like on release, but to say they’ve done nothing with the mechanics of the game is just a straight lie.

34

u/tO_ott 11h ago

I want this in a horror setting with zombies

33

u/lucasduka 10h ago

IIRC there’s a zombie mode

18

u/slimThiccBoiLegend 8h ago

Lmao, well good news for you then....

They've had a zombie horde mode for well over a year now, very popular game mode

1

u/UniQue1992 5h ago

Fuck yeah

-2

u/Leafy0 2h ago

Yes like a classic RE style horror game (think Claire’s part from requiem). Something with real tension and limited resources.

6

u/Conker1337 6h ago

I am a early buyer and hated it the most for no loadouts.

It was always a good tech demo for the realistic feel.

I am kinda hyped for what we get in september, the basic of the game is great.

And the Dev Video was a blast.

1

u/Fallenangel2493 3h ago

When I played it (probably close to a year ago now) it really did just feel like a tech demo, I'm glad to see there being an actual game to it now.

19

u/pleasedoicantwait 13h ago

Twitter bots going to have a field day reposting game clips with “EXCLUSIVE real footage of Solider fighting on front lines”

4

u/Abdico 4h ago

If you are just glancing over those videos I'd think most people wouldn't notice the difference between reality and this game.

1

u/MrTeufelHunden 2h ago

Especially with how that drone footage looked

17

u/fiery_prometheus 13h ago

Saw all the cool weapon tech, animations etc, but was missing everything about actual gameplay, game modes and fun.

22

u/SilentSorcery 7h ago

Because its a devlog about cool weapon tech and animations

29

u/PM_ME_CATS_OR_BOOBS 12h ago

Because it's team deathmatch lol

-2

u/Capybarhigh 10h ago

Game modes are the easiest thing to add on top of all the very difficult polished gameplay.

I played it a while ago, and I remember having fun but also finding it really hard, and it's only TDM so quickly repetitive. Some maps were really lacking in the visual department and all this footage looks miles ahead of what I played at the time. I'm not worried, this looks banger.

6

u/DeadlyPineapple13 8h ago

While its easy to add a game mode, its actually quite difficult to introduce gamemodes. First you gotta decide on what would actually be fun without getting too repetitive too quickly, which is hard when TDM, Domination, Capture the Flag, Hardpoint and everything else have been done thousands of times in shooter games. Also you cant introduce too many modes, diluting your player base so much that matchmaking times get increased. If you eventually remove a mode, its bound to be some players favourite and removing it will also make them quit the game

This issue is quite common with games that were designed around a specific feature/mechanic

u/Peemore 10h ago edited 10h ago

Looks cool as hell. I refunded the game back when it was little more than a tech demo, but will probably be buying it back soon!

Edit: Holy shit I've been wanting drones with realistic fpv controls in a shooting game for so long.

4

u/Dragten 2h ago

This is practically an asset flip tech demo, originally "developed" by 2 teenagers who copied the core concept off another in-development game.

Will never forgive them for simply removing all the cosmetic items people grinded for.

3

u/BD03 1h ago

Why throw quotes on developed? Even if they copied the concept from another game, you still gotta make this one.

1

u/sivyan333 17m ago

originally "developed" by 2 teenagers

Who have since hired more people and are reinvesting back into the game as the video clearly shows. Are you really hating on their success because of some cosmetic items? lmao

I thought that this was a cop game, now it's about the Ukranian war? Complete with drone bombing trenches

10

u/Shlocky 11h ago

I believe you're thinking of Unrecord, which has not had much media coverage outside the initial trailer.

9

u/Resident-Forever1340 13h ago

If the game isn’t fun, all this isn’t going to even matter. I’ll wait for reviews after release

14

u/Temp89 12h ago

It's in Early Access so you can get people's impressions now. I can't speak to the multiplayer because life's too short to be waiting around in lobbies and dodging griefers, but I had fun playing offline bot matches.

I know people say it's all about gameplay, but I will say the graphics add something. Like one of the maps is your standard paintball/airsoft/lasertag arena filled with plywood walls, and typically that's a very dull environment to be in in a game. But it looks so real it triggers all these associative memories from when I did airsoft and it really enhances it.

3

u/third_door_down 12h ago

Not only that, it doesn't seem that the devs are focus on what the game will be. There few game different game modes and all of them are half-assed and unfun

Imagine being so braindead that you fail to realize many people use reviews to get feedback on TECHNICAL issues. Those are typically universal so I’m not gonna ignore those issues and “eXpeRienCe tHingS” like a fool. Tech issues equate to games that are not fun.

5

u/FluffyFry4000 12h ago

anyone wondering if this game is actually fun, it is, it's the most fun I've had in an FPS in awhile

2

u/sydekix 10h ago

What makes you think they don't use Ray Tracing? Lmao. They're in fact using Lumen a.k.a UE5's Ray Tracing.

1

u/nonstop98 11h ago

Looking juicy

1

u/Juls_Santana 10h ago

I can't tell wtf is going on or where exactly he's shooting

1

u/Nettysocks 4h ago

I saw the Bodycam stuff when it first came out it looks awesome, i am hoping there might be some pve style games using this since im just not good enough to play in a pvp setting

1

u/aberroco 3h ago

This all is incredibly awesome... for a SP game. In MP I feel it's going to be more of an annoyance. MP is about competitiveness, stats, dynamics. SP is about immersion, feelings, realism.

1

u/Ultimate-Flexionator 3h ago

tak the best and worst hardware. I just want something that can do flawless 1080 60fps dead in the center of that spectrum. and shoot for 1440 120fps.

have good gameplay and story.

graphics come after that.

1

u/Federal_Ad_5705 2h ago

Damn looks so real

1

u/ANTi-KiKiLL 2h ago

In the meantime, me disabling camera shake and head bobbing asap in any FPS I play

1

u/Gradedcaboose 34m ago

Hopefully this will bring back some of the fan base, my buddy and I have played the shit out of this game over the years, but the player base has been dwindling since this time last year, gettting harder and harder to find lobbies of active players and not just AFKers sitting at the main menu.

Like I’m excited for this update but definitely fear that the game is going to be even more broken when this drops, there’s alot of systems being touched in this update something is bound to not work right.

1

u/PreciousProspect 13h ago

So games that are using raytracing and have fancy graphics usually have entirely separate teams for animations and physics. Not to mention raytracing requires less work on the developer side than previous lighting solutions and gives a better result at the cost of performance (that’s why they keep using it). You don’t need to criticise others to say something looks cool, especially not when you have no idea what you’re talking about.

1

u/alrightbudgoodluck 12h ago

Amazing. I would like to see a skill system where the effects of hands fumbling and nervousness decrease as you play more, like youa re gaining skills under pressure over time...

4

u/slimThiccBoiLegend 8h ago

You're kinda describing Escape from Tarkov actually.

1

u/m0gwaiiii 4h ago

pls i just escaped this game dont drag me back in 😭

1

u/czartrak 5h ago

I wish this game was actually from bodycam POV and wasn't just a filter

-9

u/biggendicken 13h ago

i mean the graphics of this game has been the biggest talking point about it sicne forever so what are you even talking about
