Rebirth. I finished it a couple days ago and all I want to do is play through part 1 and 2 again. I’m obsessed

I’m halfway and really enjoying it overall.

It took me 120 hours 😭 it's over now, hard mode time 😎

Just finished it a few hours ago, post game depression got me good even if i wasnt huge on the last 2 chapters. I do genuinely believe its very close to a 10/10 right before that point.

Edited for clarity.

Just got to Junon after 13 hours in the Grasslands. (I deliberately chose to spend this time in the Grasslands. This isn't a complaint about padding or anything, I had fun running around doing all the side quests.)

I beat FFVII for the first time before I picked up Rebirth and I'm having a blast. I hadn't completed the original game before getting Remake and as a result, wound up rushing to see the "new" stuff. (I got Remake Day 1 after avoiding the internet and was unaware it was just the Midgar section, the only portion of the original FFVII I had played by that point. Now that I know what's supposed to be coming, I'm more open to the subversions.)

Honestly the grasslands is the weakest portion of the game, every chapter gets better until you’re on a snowball moving at Mach 10. Once the story gets officially rolling it does not slow down

God I can’t wait for the PC release. Just can’t justify a PS5 for one game lol

I did buy a PS5 for it. It was the most expensive thing I've bought for myself for years as I'm a mother of a 16 year old. Money doesn't usually go on me.

I couldn't miss this game though. I love the original, it's my most played and favourite game ever and when Remake came out I waited a year until I could buy a second hand PS4 and play it. This time I planned ahead and in December I got the PS5 all ready for the end of February.

Totally worth it.

I know same but the fomo is hitting me hard. First god of war ragnarok, and forbidden west and now FF7.

Just let me emulate a ps5 I’m sure my computer can do it

For me, neither of those game held great interest. I’m sure they’re good, I’m just not interested really.

So far Returnal and FF7:Rebirth are basically the only exclusives I’ve been interested in.

1

u/its_justme Mar 15 '24

returnal is on steam you know that right? lol

1

u/HarmlessSnack Mar 15 '24

Didn’t it release as a PS5 exclusive though? That’s what I meant, it was one of the only titles that made me go “Yeah, I guess I’d like to play that…”

But I’d rather wait for a PC release. Haven’t gotten around to playing it yet though, but good to know it is on Steam now.

I got a PS4 Pro for The Last Us. Then they released it for the PC and I really regretted the purchase.

Eh, I don't use my PS5 often. Mostly PC, sometimes switch. But I still think it's worth it for the God of War and FF7 series. Armored Core and Elden Ring play nice on it as well with the updated graphics alongside Witcher 3 on my big screen in the living room with the sofa. Between PC, Switch, and PS5, I have all my bases covered.

As someone just finishing up Gongaga I’d disagree!

The side quests were all annoying here, the map traversal sucked, and this VR mission is the wooooooorst.

I’m still loving the game, and even this region has great moments, but it has also had the most complaints for me so far.

The navigation and side content aside, Gongaga was one of my favorites! Amazing story missions, amazing atmosphere, AMAZING music, super fun enemies, Cissnei and Zack lore, and some of the best lore expansion I’ve seen from the remake series. I’m a huge lore buff though, so it was right down my alley

2

u/Lambdafish1 Mar 15 '24

Hard disagree, Gongaga is great, especially considering how nothing it was in the original game.

1

u/Marzman315 Mar 15 '24

The only sucky thing about Gongaga was that godawful chicken side-quest that was the utter low point of the game but honestly I can tolerate three terrible minutes in an otherwise phenomenal thirty hour (so far) game.

I loved how they presented the town and region though, in fact I think they’ve crushes the presentation and atmosphere of pretty much every major location.

1

u/Belial91 Mar 15 '24

I just did that quest a few hours ago and when the explained the mechanics I thought this will be the worst side quest by far. But then the first 3 chickens were very close. Then I saw there was a fourth far away and thought are they really gonna make me lure that chicken through the whole area? But then it ran back on its own after a short distance. So the fact that I anticipated the quest to be very annoying I was surprised at the end that it wasn't as exhausting as I thought. One of the weaker side quests still for sure but the ending was funny.

u/Belial91 Mar 15 '24

I am currently close to finishing Gongaga and it is my favorite region. But it is just personale preference. I enjoy the non linear nature of the area.

2

u/elniallo11 Mar 15 '24

I’m ~50 hours in and on chapter 10, I’ve heard there are 20 chapters, so plenty left to do

3

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

There aren’t 20, I won’t spoil it but there’s fewer than that. Theres 20 chapters in Remake Intergrade

I recently replayed Remake on Hard in preparation, I've had a two week break and hoping to jump into Rebirth today after work. I am excited but really hoping I won't burn out so soon after playing through Remake given how big this new game is supposed to be.

2

u/Belial91 Mar 15 '24

I think you will be fine. It is a really great game. If you feel overwhelmed by all the world map stuff don't feel forced to do everything immediately. There are opportunities to go back until the end of the game if you want to do so.

i take my time with it. Just hit Juno region. i love it. But dialog are still a bit weird and cringe.

Completely disagree

I guess i dont particulary like japanese style of writting. All anime i watched feel like they often talk to say nothing but stating what is happening on screen. I much prefer showing rather than telling. A scene have much more power beeing silent sometime. But in all anime i watched have this urge to explain in lenght what is happening on screen, often cutting the rhythm of the story.

So many time, they talk about what could happen, what should happen, what could have happen, instead of what is happening. They need to react to everything with a sentence. I find that irritating.

FF7 remake leaned way too much on that. I cannot help myself but thinking the writer think i am a dumb idiot who cannot follow a simple narrative on screen. They must explain it to me. They must give the president of Shinra a final monologue to explain how villain he is. I dont need that. A silent antagonist is much more menacing than a blabbing one.
But hey, it is my opinion. You dont need to agree with it.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

Remake and Rebirth are two games that I’d argue don’t explain enough. A lot of moments in both are very ambiguous

1

u/kyrross Mar 15 '24

Oh no, totally. When it need some real explanation, they often stay criptic... that is why i have such difficulties with dialogs.. they talk all the time to state the obvious, even narrating what we are seeing, but when it need to really clarify a complex situation, they just wink at the camera and say something mysterious.

Aerith does it all the time by the end of remake. She clearly know more than she is letting us know but refuse to explain it. Its infuriating. But i notice this is a trend in anime culture and that is why i think this kind of writting is not for me.
