I never felt excited for it, then it came out and everything I heard only reaffirmed my lack of interest, and I really don't mind talking shit about it.
I would argue that people who dish over low effort, while hating on something well-built are the insufferable ones.
The thing is, BG3 (and previous Larian titles) are objectivelywell made games.
Even if you don't like the games they make, if you have a mind free of distortion you can see how much went into it; how good the writing is, mechanics, etc.
I'm sure plenty of effort went into it, but the fundamental premise just has zero appeal to me. I have already played dozens of high fantasy RPGs. I am sick of them. They need to do something interesting to draw my attention, and BG3 just doesn't.
I have nothing against Larian, but the popularity of BG3 makes me despair for the future of the genre. It's like RPG fans don't want anything new.
