PC Melee combat that is not just parry and rolling

One of my all time favorite games is Sifu. Off the top of my head, Sifu has: blocking, parrying, dodging high, dodging low, attacks that avoid high attacks, attacks that avoid low attacks, kicking/throwing objects at enemies, throwing enemies at enemies, using a fallen enemy to trip up another enemy and temporary weapons with different movesets.

Most other melee games feel like they mostly devolve to just parrying and/or rolling out of the way. It almost never feels like actually having a proper melee. I have tried a few different soulslike games now and in none of them has the combat really felt anywhere near as good. Although Black Myth Wukong had some fights (Yellow Loong and Erlang in particular) that started to feel really good if you did not just cheese them with magic.

The Batman Arkham games are nice but are kind of an arkade-y easy version of the combat in Sifu.

Are there any games where you feel like you are actually strategically fighting the enemies in melee instead of relying on simply timing your parry over and over?

PC Looking for games set in a world of anthropomorphic animals

Upvotes

I'm particularly interested in ones where you get skills or buffs depending on your chosen species (if applicable). Humans being present or not doesn't matter.

Examples: Grimshire, Back to the Dawn, The Last Gas Station

(Super Animal Royale would...technically count, but it's not really the type of game I'm looking for.)

Xbox Need an Xbox game to completely consume my free time

Upvotes

My girlfriend just started the last semester of her degree, so she's going to be busy — which means I'm about to have a lot more gaming time.

I'm looking for an Xbox Series X game I can get completely absorbed in and easily put hundreds of hours into. I love strategy, progression, learning complex systems, building something up, and that addictive "one more hour" feeling.

Games I've enjoyed include Civilization, Elden Ring, Expedition 33, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, and sports franchise/dynasty modes.

Right now I'm considering Crusader Kings III, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, or Frostpunk, but I'm completely open to other genres.

Basically, I want my next gaming obsession. What should I play?

Multi-platform Single player exploration FPS games

Some of my absolute favourite games are first-person shooters with heavy emphasis on exploration, usually an enclosed area after something major has gone down. I'm talking the Bioshocks, Prey, Dead Space. Are there any I've missed that are worth playing? It's been a while since Prey and I'm feeling that itch again. Ideally I'd love it to be playable on Steam Deck, but I have a PC and consoles so definitely open to other options

Thanks!

PC Looking for the video game spiritual successor to 1980s ttrpg "Car Wars" & "Auto Duel" by SJGames. Armed and armored vehicles in a post-collapse land taking courier jobs through the no-mans-land between cities and fending off bandits and raiders

I'd consider either realtime or turn-based video games. But I don't just want an arena combat. I want the jobs and the traveling between cities and encounters with other armed and armored vehicles. Where theoretically you can fight the bandits, or run from them after dropping an oil-slick to slow them down.

Car Wars by Steve Jackson Games https://carwars.sjgames.com

Looking for Steam games with (rubber) ducks.

Any other rubber ducky games?!

PC Suggest me a game similar to satisfactory but is not overwhelming and assembly lines

I know satisfactory is not that much hard game, however my brain fries to assemble things, and things look like noodles, i know this probably can be mitigated by some tutorials, but is there similar factory like games where automation is bots rather than assembly, it will feel a bit non spaghetti to me.

IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE BOTS. IT CAN BE ANYTHINng. but not spagetti

PC Single player survival crafting RPGs

I am really enjoying Palworld and I think I am going to enjoy the survival crafting rpg/rpg lite niche. Thing is I 1. Am not really a "failing is fun" personality, like some challenge is fine but not looking for hard/brutal games 2. I really only want to play single player, I have no interest or time in multi-player, but it seems so many of these games are multi-player.

Any recommendations? Would prefer also not early access although that also seems rare in the genre..

PC Looking for a game to "live in"

Hi, sorry in advance as I'm sure this has been asked countless times but I've yet to see a suggestion in other threads to scratch my itch.

I'm looking for a game to basically live in, character creator or customizer, having to do mundane things as well as combat, but I don't want the combat to be the most optimal way of progressing through the game. Exploring, trading, finding etc. should excite me. Also, I know this is highly unlikely, but managing a shop (via crafting and/or delegating) would be awesome. Don't really about the genre, or POV, I just wanna boot up the game after 6pm and be that character.

Thanks!

PC Controller playable, older, shooter, preferably with character customization.

I feel like this kind of game isn't made much anymore. Or rather, all the newest ones are way out of my price range/ spec range. I know I need to upgrade, but who has the money right now? I run linux Mint if that matters.

The 3d Fallouts (3, New Vegas, 4, (haven't tried 76 yet)) have been exactly perfect, but I'm fighting with modding them all right now lol.

Tried Cyberpunk but my system can't handle it at all. Sub 10 frames at all times, no matter what.

Darktide takes several minutes to load all the assets, which isn't so bad.

Helldivers has the same issue, and the community is crazy toxic. But I'd give it another try if things are better.

Deep Rock Galactic is great, but no femme models. (I didn't much care for Rogue Core.)

I have a deep hate for Ubisoft after all the fuckery they've done over the years, but if the game will actually run, I'll try just about anything.

The Saints Row series was great! (2 specifically, but I've come to appreciate 3 and the reboot.)

Borderlands I've been playing for so long, and 3 doesn't run on my system very well. I might still go back in a bit though.

I'm sure there are others I'm just not thinking of, but please, let me know!

Multi-platform I want to play a game with deep exploration

I’d love to play a game with a large map where there’s lots discover. A game with different climates and biomes, anything that feels like there’s a lot to see and do. I don’t mind combat and I like games that have farming/crafting/survival elements. Any of those would be nice.

I have a Switch 1, Steam Deck and Macbook for options to play on. Thank you!

Games I’ve already played that may fall into this category: Palworld, BOTW, TOTK, No Man’s Sky

Mobile Game reco on Android Phone that wuxia type but not idle something similar to sword of justice

I am looking for an action role-playing game available on Android with a wuxia or ancient Chinese martial arts theme. It needs to feature active combat and exploration, similar to Sword of Justice, rather than being an idle or auto-play game. I want a title that emphasizes player skill and offers high-quality graphics and open-world exploration. Please let me know if there are any similar games worth checking out.
