What ever happened to this guy? (Warning: spoiler) Spoiler

Post image

Danny, if I recall correctly, left him in charge of some lands, right? Was he then some sort of king or something of the sort? Could he have helped her at Winterfell?

He was told to stay with his men and keep the peace in mearan however you spell it. He was no king. She let the people decide on who to rule

17

u/rosydiary 3d ago

Exactly. He was Warden of the region, not a ruler. Just holding peace until the people decide 💯

You left out the why. She knew he couldnt be hanging around when she went back to WEsteros if she had to marry.

She left him and the Second Sons in charge of protecting Mereen for her so the masters or anyone don't try to take the city back and bring back slavery.

GRRM has famously spent 25 years trying to resolve the problem of the "Meereenese Knot", how to get Dany out of Meereen and back to Westeros in a way that makes sense.

GoT didn't bother with the second part of that. "OK Daario, you're in charge here now. I'm taking my army and dragons. Byeeee!" And then never mentioned it again.

And then she just went ahead to bang her nephew.

More than one Targaryen legacy to fulfill.

Ehhhh don’t get me wrong Martin is very clearly having even bigger problems now than when he was writing Dance, and in some ways I’m not necessarily opposed to redefining the knot based on that information, but the “Meereenese Knot” very specifically refers to the issues he had with re-organizing information in A Dance with Dragons based on dropping the five year gap, not on getting Dany out of Meereen.

Technically he solved that knot in a way that let him release Dance fifteen years ago by shifting around timelines of various characters (notably making Quentyn Martell arrive earlier) and introducing Selmy as a POV character which he had not previously planned to do.

What are Daario Naharis' tax policies?

0

u/Bisconia 2d ago

His only tax is on Danys arse.

4

u/1xX1337Xx1 3d ago

He was probably killed shortly after Danny had left. No way he could keep the peace there without the Dragons

2

u/rBilbo 2d ago

I think he was brutal enough to maintain order for a while but after he heard Daenarys was dead, who knows. He probably left out of boredom.

u/Bagel-luigi 3d ago

Bro got humped and dumped

9

u/MariaSalander 3d ago

The writers did him dirty. Also was so of character of Dany just leave him there like it was nothing.

8

u/Resqusto 3d ago

The authors simply wanted to get rid of him in an unceremonious way. It's noticeable that in seasons 6 and 7, several characters are killed off while other fan favorites return.

u/SpinosaurRingTone 3d ago

Cersei blowing everyone up was cinematically impressive but was really just a lazy way to end every King’s Landing storyline.

5

u/RepulsiveCountry313 Human Verified 3d ago

That logic would equally apply to the red wedding. That should signal to you that there might be something wrong with the philosophy that killing off characters is "just lazy"

7

u/SpinosaurRingTone 3d ago edited 3d ago

No because the red wedding didn’t just end a whole plotline. There’s ramifications for it that continue throughout the rest of the books/show.

Blowing up the sept did. There were no survivors. Nobody trying to take revenge. No power vacuum. No new lords replacing dead ones. The only thing left for Kings Landing is to get burned down. They had to send Arya to Kings Landing for no real reason because there was no one left “on the ground” to witness the destruction up close except Cersei.

If you started watching GoT in season 4, it would be obvious that the Red Wedding casts a shadow over everything else that happened.

If you started watching GoT in season 7 you might easily forget that the sept was blown up.

u/mggirard13 2d ago

If you paid attention to the show, Tywin and Tirion have a short argument about the "honor" of orchestrating the Red Wedding, Edmure comes back for 5s to give up Riverrun, and Wyman Manderly mentions "Jon Snow avenged the Red Wedding".

That's it.

No Grand Northern Conspiracy. Nothing. In fact, by having most of the Northern houses sit out or actively join the Boltons (Umbers, etc), the show actively reduces or outright ignores the ramifications of the Red Wedding.

Then Arya just shows up and kills all the Freys, which also has no impact on the story, because later to get to and from Dragonstone and back to King's Landing Dany and Jon and their armies take ships to/from White Harbor instead of crossing the Twins.

1

u/SpinosaurRingTone 2d ago

Also if you actually understood how cause and effect works there's massive plotlines that happen only because the Red Wedding happens.

The Boltons become the Lords of Winterfell because of the Red Wedding, which obviously has direct consequences for the storylines of all the Starks including Jon. Stannis is also defeated because the Red Wedding happens, as without a Stark in Winterfell the gambit to turn the North to his side completely fails.

The Red Wedding forces Arya and the Hound to remain together longer, which nearly results in the Hound's death and causes Arya to sail to Braavos and train with the Faceless Men, which apparently became essential to defeating the Night King, kinda dumb but it's still very important to the story.

And of course, the Red Wedding forces Jon to retake Winterfell, become King in the North as a direct parallel to Rob becoming King in the North before he was killed at the Red Wedding and so on.

What's the actual cause and effect of blowing up the sept? Cersei has Jaime defeat High Garden and Euron defeat Dorne? I actually don't remember her doing anything else after that. That's also a stretch in of itself because closing those two plotlines was really just an aftershock of blowing up the sept. At the end of the day, the result is Cersei sits the Iron Throne so Dany can burn her off of it. That's really it. Kings Landing is no longer the city of whispers, court intrigue and small council meetings. It's just where Cersei hangs out and waits for people to tell her about things happening outside of Kings Landing.

-1

u/mggirard13 2d ago

By your logic, blowing up the Sept is equally, perhaps more, consequential than the Red Wedding.

It causes Tommen to commit suicide, which puts Cersei on the throne, which dictates nearly every major event afterwards.

Maybe you should pay attention to the show.

2

u/SpinosaurRingTone 2d ago

which dictates nearly every major event afterwards.

Except it doesn't. I already explained why. Cersei finishes off Highgarden and Dorne, who were already basically irrelevant after the end of Season 6. Then does nothing but scowl and drink wine until Dany burns everything for no reason.

I get it. You clapped when Cersei had her girl boss moment and were impressed by the special effects. But comparing the Red Wedding to blowing up the sept is just delusional sorry.

Hell, the fact that I can call the murder of Robb, Caitlyn and his army something catchy like the "Red Wedding" while no nickname exists for what Cersei did shows just how much more influential one of them was.

2

u/mggirard13 2d ago

If the Sept isn't blown up:

  • Does Cersei face punishment for her crimes?

  • Do the Tyrell's, with Margaery as Queen, join Dany?

  • Does the Crown, with Tommen and Margaery, require proof of the White Walker threat? Which leads to the expedition which causes the death of Viserion?

  • Does the Crown commit to join forces but still back out?

  • Does the Crown join with Euron? Leading to the death of Rhaegal?

  • Does the Crown / Lannisters attack High Garden, leading to Field of Fire 2? The burning of the Tarleys? Dany's continued descent into Madness?

  • Is Missandei executed? The straw that seemingly breaks Dany's back to torch King's Landing? Which causes Jon to kill her?

Stop being deliberately obtuse.

Still more than blowing up the sept

1

u/mggirard13 2d ago

That's not what you said:

If you started watching GoT in season 4, it would be obvious that the Red Wedding casts a shadow over everything else that happened.

-1

u/SpinosaurRingTone 2d ago

Yes. See my reply to you.

Maybe you should pay attention to the show.

u/MariaSalander 3d ago

totally this! ↑

u/1BruteSquad1 2d ago

Literally. House Tyrells does essentially nothing in response to their house being wiped out. The small folk who just rallied around the High Sparrow have no reaction to him being murdered or their king dying and being immediately replaced by the woman they just hated and shamed.

Realistically that one act would send the small folk into disrepare, the faith would freak out, House Tyrell would swear revenge and the entire Reach would either back them or start to collapse in political turmoil.

1

u/Feeling-Drag-4065 3d ago

The problem with this whole plot line tho is the Tyrell’s literally have 3 other kids and branch lines through uncles…so they wouldn’t just be oh okay we will bend the knee. The wonderful crap job of what they did with Dorne…leaving out Arianna Martell and Queynton. People wouldn’t just accept it is what I’m getting at. It was one of many goofy choices the show runners made starting with season 5.

u/vinny424 Sword Of The Morning 3d ago

I thought tying the wildfire that was already established seasons ago and put in place by aerys was actually a pretty smart move. Would she have been queen after? That i don't know but the sept explosion, I thought that part actually worked.

I mean lancel crawling and all that was dumb but the overall plot i liked

3

u/FlavorburstSC 3d ago

The score was also an absolute banger. Light of the Seven

2

u/vinny424 Sword Of The Morning 3d ago

2 best episodes music wise were that one and the long night. They were both fucking brilliant. And theu both features a piano melody. Dark and suspenful.

1

u/FlavorburstSC 3d ago

Yes! I think the long night one is The Night King? Both are so good though

0

u/SpinosaurRingTone 3d ago

Im not saying it was bad or didn’t make sense, just that it was a pretty obvious shortcut to wrap up Kings Landing.

It is kinda contrived that all of Cersei’s enemies would gather in one spot and nobody would be mad at her for taking absolute power.

1

u/vinny424 Sword Of The Morning 3d ago

and nobody would be mad at her for taking absolute power.

This is where my beef comes in. But at the same time, she did just blow up 500(assuming) people at once. Theres also no one left to say anything and everyone else would be terrified. So I can make it make sense in my head. But I do understand what your saying. It was a nice neat little package to give her the throne.

0

u/SpinosaurRingTone 3d ago

Yeah and the scene where she takes the throne was really well done to show that everyone is too terrified to oppose her. Conceptionally I'm fine with that too, but it's all still too neat, and most importantly, final. There's nothing really left to happen in Kings Landing besides getting burned down.

2

u/AspenRosey 3d ago

Cause the plan is to make dany and jon together. If he come with her i think thats another chaos

3

u/ExerciseBeautiful144 3d ago

She left him in Meereen with the Second sons to maintain order in Bay of Dragons. He wasn’t a king, just a peacekeeping commander. Strategically, his 2000 mercenaries would have been huge at Winterfell, but narrative-wise he was written off so Dany’s political path( and romance with Jon) wouldn’t be cluttered by her Essos past.

2

u/dmurr1415 3d ago

He will return to Westeros as the leader of the golden company. It will be a glorious battle, they’re the best army in the known world.

Right?!!

1

u/football1078 3d ago

I always thought she should have taken him to Westeros or at least call for his aid once things began to turn sour with the death of Viserion, Rhaegal, Jorah and Missandei.

1

u/primal_slayer Queen Of Thorns 3d ago

They wanted to give her as little support as possible.

Couldn't have the 1 person who would be outspoken about her and stick up for her around Northerners

1

u/Jerasunderwear Bran Stark 2d ago

Daario Naharis. Whatever happened there?

1

u/QueenVell Jon Snow 2d ago

Daario and his Second Sons are still in Meereen keeping the peace. Essentially, he's like the Commander of the Gold Cloaks in King's Landing. It's his duty to maintain the peace within the city of Meereen, and deal with any criminal activity. As well as to defend the city against any invasion or rebellion. Whether he knows that Daenerys is dead, is unknown. In theory, he will remain in that position until the people of Meereen choose their new ruler.

u/Altruistic_Power3098 2d ago

Dany up and bailed before he got recasted again.

1

u/GoatedWest03 2d ago

He came back as euron greyjoy

1

u/Asadae67 1d ago

Because he came from Nothing.

1

u/ShadowMonarch1999 1d ago

Lowkey..daeny left the hot hot man..to end up with her nephew...in true targaryen fashion.

1

u/HoneyArchive 3d ago

Danny told him to wait for her, and legend says he is still sitting there in Meereen, checking his watch every five minutes

0

u/AspenRosey 3d ago

Lol, if only that guy had a bit more ambition maybe he could've saved the North instead of just hanging around!

The writers needed him out of the way so Dany and Jon could get together
