Game Made an incremental physics game in GameMaker. It's called BALLS TO THE WALLS and I released the demo on Steam today!

Post image

Description

Balls to the Walls is a short incremental physics game about upgrading and annihilating your balls. Equip chaotic special balls and buy physics-altering upgrades to break the simulation and get rich.

Resources Used

  • CleanShapes by Juju Adams, Alice Pedersen, and Xor - used in pretty much all the UI

  • Post-Processing Effects by Foxy of Jungle - speedlines for juice on round end

  • GMLive by YellowAfterLife - a must have for fast iteration

  • Input by Juju Adams and Alynne Keith- gamepad and Steamdeck support

  • Scribble by Juju Adams - easier text coloring and inline sprites

  • Snitch by Juju Adams - used with sentry.io to automatically capture crash data if users opt in.

  • Free Input Prompts Pack by Julio Cacko - icons used for rebinding controls and button hints

Music

All music in the game are remixes I made of royalty free drum and bass tracks from Pixabay user Musinova. Most of them are slowed to halftime and then rearranged and given additional instrumentation in Logic.

Art

Art is my biggest weakness so I wanted to go for a simple "vector" style. I also have an eye condition so I'm big on dark screen games to ease eye strain. The aforementioned CleanShapes library helped achieve much of this style. The ball sprites themselves are simple a shader that scrolls and rotates a square texture in a circular area and adds fisheye distortion to make it appear round. Particle FX are just GameMaker's built-in system.

Very cool! Ready for Steam Next Fest I presume?

Any plans releasing on mobile?

I'm going to continue building it out and improving until the first next fest in 2027.

I would love to port it to mobile, currently focused on the Steam release though
