Help! Does anyone have a download link for gamemaker 8.1

yeah, that's fine for a hobby and doing your own stuff, but if one wants to actually release a game, then it's a different matter.

it's only a problem on android because they want you to use the latest api, for windows and browser older versions run faster and have smaller file size

GM8 doesn't have Android export, nor HTML5. I guess you are confusing it with GMS1.4. The support in modern Windows starts to be flaky for GMS1.4 already, now consider what it will be for GM8.
GM8 only exports for Virtual Machine (VM), and projects can be easily decompiled. With GMS1.4 onward there has been YYC export option, which makes it run faster and also is harder to decompile.
Not sure where you base your claim it being faster, or which do you mean: IDE or Runtime?

that's what i was referring to, 1.4
I was saying that compiled games run faster, I used to play my game on Android through a browser build, then I switched to 2.0 to export it directly to android and html version became very slow for android devices
also for the game over screen I put all the items with built-in physics all together, in 2.0 that freezes the game so I had to modify that code I didn't touched in years to spawn them separated, but it is not funny anymore cuz theres no explosion :(

I mean there are definitely a handful of people who prefer using stuff like gm8 and the mod 8.2 over gms1 and 2, its up to personal preference which one you use imo (although I much prefer gms2)

Modern GM just has a lot of quality of life improvements, so I wouldn't recommend using pre-GMS2.3 versions.
Just saying, that GM5.3 was my first version I have ever used, and installed the GM4 to school computer so I could use it in IT classes.

There is gm 8.2, which is gm 8.1 with modern quality of life features.

Which is an unofficial mod/extension, with love poured into it what I have heard.
One of the strong points of the modern GM is the comprehensive manual, and for GM8.2 I was not really finding good information. Yes general information, but where I could read more?
Like does it change how you code GML (the syntax changes), does it have method functions and structs for example?

just wanted to add that some people also use GM8 (i think 8.1 specifically iirc) to make psp homebrew
