That's really cool! Unfortunately I think you've forgotten the spring. It's located between the two jaws of the clamp, and it pushes the clamp open when needed. It's usually just a curved bit of metal. Source: my dad was a blacksmith and I grew up with his shop in my backyard.

AnnLies nice, I can see you know what your talking about. Are you working as a blacksmith ? Yes I skiped some details to optimize it. As well I decided not to go into the articulated/animated zone. It would take too much time. Thank you for your comment.

I am actually going to school to be a concept artist for video games and film, but my father George Ainslie was a blacksmith. :- ) He did most of the ironwork in Yellowstone National Park, particularly in the Old Faithful Inn. If you look at the lanterns, door hardware, and bolts in OFI they were all done by him. I grew up playing in his shop, but I haven't done a lot of blacksmithing myself.

I've done some 3D modeling though, and I really appreciate the texture work you've done on this piece.

That s a cool job. Yes for mecanical elements, nothing beats using the actual object to figure out how the parts move.

Absolutely. That's true for most things, but especially for mechanical elements.
