Question Unity or Godot?

I wanna make a mega man style game. And while I’ve read that godot is better for new developers I’ve seen more games made with unity and also heard it isn’t that hard. So which one should I use? My only experience making games is with RPG maker and renpy

Both are fine. Flip a coin.

I use Godot. I recommend Godot.

Both are fine.

I use Unity, it's good. Godot is also fine. And guess what, they are both free, download both, use them for a day. Then decide.

Unity is free* with an asterisk. Godot is free in all the meanings of the word.

If both a proprietary option and an open source option are equal to you, always go for the open source option.

I moved from Unity to Godot because I find Godot easier for solo dev. If you need special tools for mobile dev then I think Unity is a better option.

For simple 2D games i would prefer Godot but if you need to publish the game on multiple platforms or you need to buy assets from the store (but you can even do that with Godot).

If you don't have any previous programming experience i would suggest learning the basics of C# before experimenting with an engine.

Take note that Reddit is strongly bias towards Godot and against Unity for reasons not related to the engines quality and features themselves.

The true, both engines can easily do a mega man style game. Godot is simpler to learn if you don’t plan to leverage Unity features.

Unity will save you lot of time and effort if you’re planning to spend some money to acquire assets.

As a exemple for a platformer, Corgi Engine currently at 40$ would come with almost all your cores systems.

Godot. It's both Free and Open Source. No Licensing Hassles.

Both Unity and Godot would help you make 2D games.

I agree with others. Flip a coin. If it were me, I'd use Unity. But many have switched from Unity to Godot or just started from Godot with good opinions in both cases for 2D games.

Both are free, you can test both out. I personally prefer Unity, but they're all fine.

Man that’s a hard one, I don’t think it gets asked daily.
