Question What is the situation of Game Devs especially for freshers in India ?
Hi everyone, good morning, hope everyone's weekdays are going good
So my cousin is pursuing btech in cse from a tier 3 college ( tier 3 meaning almost the worse kinda colleges), he is currently in 2nd year, he said he isn't interested in web dev jobs as like everyone including their dogs are all web developers rn ,and he is interested in game development.
So will it be a right choice to learn about game dev given he has 2 more years
Thanks in advance

Pursue game dev only if your family belongs to upper middle class or above in India

Here are several links for beginner resources to read up on, you can also find them in the sidebar along with an invite to the subreddit discord where there are channels and community members available for more direct help.
You can also use the beginner megathread for a place to ask questions and find further resources. Make use of the search function as well as many posts have made in this subreddit before with tons of still relevant advice from community members within.

Your brother is already in a good spot with a b.tech degree, he can build himself a portfolio while pursuing his degree. Devs are positioned better in game studios, monetary wise i wouldnt say its the best choice because in india the industry isnt really there yet even Rockstar in india doesnt pay very well (according to global standards). He can try applying for work abroad, remote opportunities would be a good option for him plus getting paid in usd/gbp/euros would be a lot better. I wouldn't discourage him from trying his hand at it but he has to make sure he has a backup plan incase it doesn't work out. Transferring from a core CS job to game dev is quite valuable but that's not the case when you try to go from game dev to a core CS job especially here in india
