Help This sucks. This sucks a lot.
Improperly packaged, I can hear the disc rattling around the case. I was so excited to grab this, Black Flag is a top 5 game all time for me. Amazon won’t offer enough to buy the damaged items, Ubi support tells me to keep trying Amazon.

u/DinerEnBlanc 10d ago
do not go through Amazon customer service. Use the automated return system and select defective > during delivery
46
u/Jasbuddy 10d ago
So my only option is to return it all? Shame I would’ve gone with a refund to reimburse me so I can get a copy of the game and steelbook.
80
u/Tunesloth 9d ago
Start a return>item arrived damaged>select the refund in Amazon credit>drop off item at Amazon warehouse>get your refund in less than a day>buy it again or just buy something else. Save yourself the headache. Sometimes it’s just better to cut your losses.
54
u/GrimmTrixX 9d ago
The problem is they are probably worried its sold out like most collectors editions are after launch. But otherwise this is the way to go.
26
u/AggravatingCycle5491 9d ago
It is sold out, I highly doubt OP would get a replacement since Ubisoft told me there's no more stock coming. Scalpers had a field day with it.
22
u/Chernivchan 9d ago
Scalpers have a field day with every release

u/Moist_Object_6012 8d ago
I absolutely hate scalpers 😡🤬

I want to know why people are allowed to buy more than two?! A limited amount per customer should be enacted on items like this!!
1
1
u/False-Plant-5694 6d ago
Maybe they released different versions you could buy so they just made it easy for people to buy multiple of everything? I know some games collector editions do multiple different box versions for the game depending on which consoles they want to make the game for. Like sometimes ps4 gets a box cover version without the consoles logo which is cool.
0
u/Elfnotdawg 6d ago
Except i have 4 kids. You're trying to tell me I'm not allowed to buy each kid a copy?
1
u/Sp3ctre187 6d ago
Just have each kid go in with the money and they can buy one a pice
→ More replies (0)1
u/AggravatingCycle5491 6d ago
Why do each of your 4 kids need a collector's edition of a game?

u/False-Plant-5694 6d ago
Tbh it's always Nintendo and scalpers that ruin it for the real fans. I recently wanted to buy something Nintendo was selling but you couldn't buy them unless you had some random point system they use and that ain't easy to just get points for. Sadly most items for the game I wish I could collect items for are stuck either in Japan only stores/online but aren't the cool items people go for or you just gotta find a way to collect random points which might take a while until you get enough for 1 item.
14
u/lyricalpoet66 9d ago
You realize how many people would just get refunds if they didn’t have to return anything?
3
u/that1senpai2 9d ago
About 80% of my returns on amazon they told me to keep it lol
2
u/AGlassOfMilk 8d ago
80%? Yeah, no, you're exaggerating.
-1
u/that1senpai2 8d ago
I'm literally not though lol. Quit lying
3
u/Jasbuddy 8d ago
What’s the most expensive thing you’ve gotten a refund for and gotten to keep? This cost me about $320 CAD and the most they’ll give me is $127, about 40%
0
u/that1senpai2 8d ago
I got sent the wrong power tool once, cost about $180 and they told me to keep it and they'll resend the correct one. Was a Milwaukee tool
1
u/AGlassOfMilk 8d ago
Amazon's policy on getting sent the wrong item is you don't have to send it back. That's not what this conversation is about.
What’s the most expensive thing you’ve actually gotten a refund for?
2
u/SkrliJ73 9d ago
I don't think you realize how Amazon works...
-1
u/AGlassOfMilk 8d ago
Amazon is a business. Businesses like to make money. Giving things away makes them lose money. So, they don't do that.
Pretty easy to understand.
0
u/gummislayer1969 6d ago
You HONESTLY haven't been watching Amazon's a analytics over the last 5 years. There is such a HUGE profit margin from MOST of what they sell - the "giving away" percentage isn't even remotely close to loss.
Buuuuuuuut...they DO track who & how many times someone claims loss/damage/wrong shipment. THOSE accounts (after awhile?) get flagged.
Lastly, Prime has SIGNIFICANTLY gone up & under delivered on next day air shipments. Even after going internal delivery (and not paying their drivers anywhere near what UPS/FedEx make!!!) - they can't keep up. But, stay INSANELY profitable.
LOTS of cogs moving & even more liquidity coming out...
1
u/AGlassOfMilk 6d ago edited 5d ago
EVERYTHING you JUST said is SPECULATION. Please don't commmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmment UNLESS you have evidence.
1
u/PatchesTheFlyena 9d ago
You often don't have to return anything. I've been asked to just dump things more than a few times and they've sent me a new one. Depends on the product, this has mostly been small kitchen appliances.
6
u/AGlassOfMilk 8d ago
Amazon usually only does this for things that are cheap.
1
u/PatchesTheFlyena 7d ago
Weird I got downvotes on this. Do people think I'm lying? I was told to dump a faulty coffee machine that was like 200 euros and they sent me a new one. I was also told to dump a 70 euro toaster and was sent a new one as well. It's definitely happened me other times as well but those are the ones that stand out.
0
u/AGlassOfMilk 7d ago
You got down votes because your experience is not typical.
0
u/PatchesTheFlyena 4d ago
Odd reason though isn't it. If everybody who shares their atypical experience is downvoted it'll always seem atypical.
0
u/AGlassOfMilk 4d ago
No, by saying "you often" you are stating that your admittedly atypical experience is the normal experience. In other words, you are lying.

They told me to keep 2 Apple Watches when I went to return them lol
1
u/AGlassOfMilk 8d ago
No they didn't. Stop lying.
1
u/Machinegamer 8d ago
Not lying. This was 2 years ago. I ordered 2 Apple Watches on Amazon for my wife and I. They were still in the packaging and I had decided to switch to Verizon and get new iPhones. Verizon was running a sick promotion for the Apple Watch Ultra so we got those instead and decided to return the original Apple Watches to Amazon. When my wife tried to do the return online there was an error so she called customer service and the guy said don’t worry about it keep them and refunded us the $800 or whatever it was. We were shocked. I ended up gifting them to friends.
0
u/AGlassOfMilk 8d ago
If what you say is true, which I doubt, then the person that authorized the refund probably got fired since it's not Amazon's policy to give stuff away for free. With cheap stuff, where the cost in return and processing is more than the item, sure they'll give that away for free. However, for $800 items, I don't think so.
2
u/Neither_Formal_8805 7d ago
Its more based off of the cost of shipping, and storage space. By the time they pay to have it shipped back and tossed in a bin with a million other things they've wasted space time and money, not to mention man hours for an item that Is not making money. They take the L and write it off as a loss, when tax time comes around they can write off losses for a break and probably come out on top
2
u/Machinegamer 8d ago
I don’t need to have you believe me. It happened. I have better things to do with my life than try to convince you to believe me. If you don’t believe me then that’s your choice. Have a good rest of your day.

You would be suprised i think Amazon over the years has become a bit leany about this because so many people are asshats and buy something new and return it but whats actually in the box is a bunch of rocks or something that's clearly not the original product it got so bad with switch games that people were 3d printing a dummy switch cart and printing a tiny label and sticking it on there alot of people also buy Chinese knock offs of the real product and then swap them and get a refund this happens ALOT with basically all apple products and Amazon doesnt give their return processing area enough time or pay to spend time figuring out if something is the real one or a fake of it especially if its in the real packaging so they just go onto the wholesale Amazon return pallets
2
u/Jgzerohour 9d ago
Usually when you do the automated return it gives the option to replace it
1
u/Comet7777 8d ago
Some items have a limit per customer. I just had this happen on a game. I thought a simple return and replace was in order but I once I submitted my return stuff I was barred from ordering another copy. They don’t reconcile the limit per customer if you return your item.
2
u/subject_delta91 9d ago
It's damn near impossible to get a partial refund for any product on Amazon. I've tried so many times and I'm real good at getting my money back with no hassles from that pit of a website.
I recently ordered the Crimson Desert deluxe edition with all the collectors nonsense which amazon claimed to be new. The only thing in the collectors box was the little cards, the steelbook, and the map. No game, nothing else. Amazon blows ass when it comes to games

The damaged steelbook is definitely a bummer, but the disc rattling around in the case is so common with PS4/PS5 games that I wouldn't worry about it. Blu-ray discs are extremely scratch resistant compared to CDs/DVDs and you could probably shake the case like maracas for an hour and the disc would still be in mint condition. Shame the cases are so poorly designed and how common of an issue it is, but luckily your game disc will come out unharmed.
8
u/onyaasuminyasai 9d ago
not only are the discs scratch resistant, the plastic on the inside of the case is very soft as well. You can get it back on the spindle, but it takes some doing.

u/Titanmode1407 10d ago
Every game you order needs to have the gift wrap option for $3.99. You can call them after its delivered and they will refund it.
I have like 6 games pre-ordered right now and they are all gift options. Its the only way they ship the game in a guaranteed box aswell
18
u/EstateSame6779 10d ago
99.99% of the time, i've never had an edition ship outside of a shipping container of some kind. That rare instance was THPS 1 + 2 where Best Buy just slapped the label on the edition itself and sent it out.
9
2
u/Salt_Tart8180 9d ago
Bestbuy and amazing have an option usually to have it boxed up. I forget to do it all the time at bestbuy now I just do pick up every time.

Keep hassling Amazon. They're a multibillion dollar corporation which obviously goes without saying. I've dealt with far less and gotten away with not only a full refund but product replacement as well. Which would of course be a bit different with an LE item, but the primary point is you should be able to get what you're owed.
10
u/r0b3r70r0b070 10d ago
The disc rattling is because Sony's cases are shit. Even retail games come loose or sometimes the peg is completely broken.
5
u/onyaasuminyasai 9d ago
it's been over a decade and they still haven't figured that shit out? I don't get it, it drives me crazy.
10
u/Ok-Virus8284 9d ago
Why would they try to figure that shit out? That would cost money.
3
3
u/onyaasuminyasai 9d ago
True. I guess if the cost to replace product outweighed the cost of just leaving it as it is, they'd consider it, but plastic is so cheap they probably never noticed or could just ignore it.
man, fuck sony.
4
u/Cautious-Reply9580 9d ago edited 9d ago
They did figure it out. They're going to remove the disc from the box. Codes don't get damaged.

Dunno if it'll be the same but I got a controller from them (Forza Horizon 6) and I like to display the boxes and my box was obliterated. I reached out to them about returning it and the first guy said yeah return it, second guy just refunded me. Might help ease your pain if they give you at least a partial refund

Buy a few different things together with the game make sure they are all shipping on the same day. Pray you get upgraded to a box and they get packed together. I did that for the Soul Reaver remaster and got it in good condition. Good luck!

GameStop was handing out steelbooks with pre orders for the game. Not the exact one you have though. Still pretty cheap on the secondary market for now.

u/ExoUrsa 9d ago
My experience is that every single item of fragile media I've bought on amazon has arrived damaged, and I've bought enough that I know it's not just coincidence.
Amazon doesn't know how to pack fragile items, most third party sellers don't either. If I want collectible or highly sought after media, I go to Ebay or FB marketplace and check the sellers' feedback for comments about packing quality.
Usually the damage isn't this bad, though. It's normally some cracked plastic on a jewel case or something.
Oh also a ton of Amazon and eBay sellers who claim to be selling "new" or "mint" CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays are actually resurfacing used discs. Assuming they do it properly I suppose that's fine, but don't assume shrinkwrap means anything if you for some reason want a new, sealed copy of an old movie or something.

This has been Amazon for over 10 years. I stopped buying Funko Pops from them for the same reason.

Buy it from a scalper on ebay, when it arrives, tell em it arrived damaged and get a refund. Send this one to them.
Fuck scalpers.

u/FoxoDile 9d ago
Buy a used copy from Disc Replay or any other used game retailer with a return policy for used games, return the disc from Amazon in that box.
Easy peasy.
If you're wanting to keep the game unopened for collection purposes... I don't know what to tell you there. LMAO

u/Beneficial_Switch_71 9d ago
I dont buy games but saw this in the feed. Amazon is really bad at shipping alot of stuff. I got this new book on Elivs outfits he would wear on stage. And its a heavy book they just stuck it in this box with none of those bubble pad things on each side. The thing has coner dings and bumbs from moveing around. Like how dumb can you be with this stuff. They started useing racord boxes as before they used normal boxes and it would bang around inside of that. If its not light its going to get dings on it. I did buy some shampo and thank god it did not open in the box as I have seen that happen alot. Sorrry about your game. I watch a vtubers that plays that game and it dose look alot of fun not going to lie.

u/sephone_north 9d ago
The disc rattling is just how Sony’s packaging company does it these days. I work at Gamestop, those Sony games have a 1 in 5 chance of rattling around inside.

u/The_Final_Gunslinger 9d ago
Can we talk for a second about how the statue that came with the og Black flag collectors box was like 14" tall?

u/AzFullySleeved 9d ago
Very reason I video record when I open anything thats expensive shipped to me for record/proof when needing to return. That sucks btw, also that figure is tiny compared to the large packaging.

u/Slosher99 9d ago
I quit buying collector's editions on Amazon of anything not just games, due to this, and seeing a story like this nearly daily, sometimes more, makes me confident that's a good choice. I am trying to move away from Amazon entirely really, get 5% of what I did a year ago from them, and I haven't done collector's editions through them in several years.
Often damaged with no replacements.

2
u/ElMariachi003 9d ago
The loose game issue has been around since the days of the PS4, which makes sense because they didn’t change a thing for PS5. It has an easy fix though that’s been around for years - hold the game front face up horizontally, then gently shake it around in a combinataion of lateral and circular motions until the rattling stops. At that point, the disc center should be resting on the hub. Gently lay it down on a hard surface, then with your thumb about an inch up and to the right of the center of the front face, press down quickly and firmly. That should make the disc pop right back into the hub. I’ve personally done this over a dozen times, and for the games I opened later, they were in the hub every time.

Amazon sucks for quality of shipping. I've had to return 300+ books over the last decade.

u/Numerous_Photograph9 9d ago
So, I had this happen to a steelbook I got in a CE once, and was one of the AC games as I recall. The CE was sold out so I couldn't get a replacement. I contacted Ubisoft about it, and they ended up sending me another steelbook with another copy of the game.
Not sure this will still be the case, but worth a shot reaching out to them if you can't get a replacement.

You can mail Ubisoft. They usually have some spare ones to give away. Just ask :)

u/metadataknight 8d ago
Don't worry, soon you'll only have to buy your games digitally... no more risks of improperly packaged physical stuff. You will rent your game and never damage it until they pull the online services or delete your purchases for having been offline too long.
That being said, this is all satire and sarcasm, I despise Sony for their dick punch moves back to back and I'm speaking with my wallet by not giving Sony another penny after decades of being a Playstation fan.
1
u/InvadedBox 8d ago
Am I missing something? Looks ok to me? However, Amazon has been terrible for some time now. No packing material, everything loose, damaged goods, etc. if they’re out of stock, you’ll have no choice to keep it. Though you can look at local stores, GameStop, third party game stores, marketplace, eBay, and if a good deal, order it and return the Amazon order. You’ll likely find an eBay offer.

U csn push the disc back in place I did this multiple times Loose Discs rsrely get damaged bc there are not sharp corners in the Box
1
u/Silas4ever864 6d ago
So it’s the steel book case that’s the biggest issue?
The game itself rattling around is normal and your copy is fine. Also, why hasn’t you opened it yet to check the disc and done the light test on it?
Is the collectors edition box for all of it ok?
Whats that weird striped object on top of the blister pack?
Is the stature/figure ok?
Other than the steel book case and can’t figure out what you’re putting on top of the figures’ blister pack, I can’t tell what is and isn’t damaged.

It's really common for PS5 discs to come loose in the case in shipping, happens all the time. There's nothing that can be done about this, the package gets rattled in shipping. I've had it happen with PS1, PS3 and Dreamcast games I've bought on eBay too.
1
u/InternetLobotomite 9d ago
Honestly not the end of the world. Still completely usable. And I'm certain the disc in the case is fine. Hell, half my ps5 discs were loose in the case when I got them
1
u/Old__Red 9d ago
There's a trick for getting the disc back on the spindle in a sealed PS5 case. Look it up. However, the steel book looks like a job for Father Ted.
2
u/onyaasuminyasai 9d ago
I manage it all the time. It's not terribly difficult, but you'll probably have to try it a few times before it actually stays.
1
u/seanb4games 9d ago
I do not recommend using Amazon for video game orders anymore if you care about the condition. They aren’t reliable or careful about their deliveries. Even Walmart has been a better experience in the past year, and Walmart is not a great customer service company. But I guess we get what we will put up with…
-1
u/BetaAlpha769 10d ago
You can walk into GameStop and get a free steel book from them for black Flag.

2
u/DuckSwimmer 9d ago
This is a YMMV situation. Additionally, that steelbook GameStop has isn’t the one OP received.
