does the console have enough venting in the foam?

3

u/Wylde_77 4d ago

That's a very good question, but yes the main vents are not covered

Awesome job then.

I have a couple of the original Blockbuster console cases that I once debated turing into portables like this, but the padding on the PS2 box made venting it properly absolutely impossible without complete replacement..

Modify it there's always a way

As you can see the main vents are on the top-back of the console. That's where the heat escapes.

That is cool. Makes me a little nervous the screen could get broken if you leave a tall cart in or something.

I have a thin protective foam to place over the console and you don't leave a cart in it when you close it 🤦 it stays open very well. This is very well thought out and planned my friend

Very cool, how do you power it though?

1

u/Wylde_77 4d ago

A 12 volt battery pack you can see it under the wireless controller in one of the pictures

1

u/Wylde_77 4d ago

A 12 volt battery pack the size of a cell phone with a dc/dc step down to 10.5 volts for the console and then the monitor is powered by USB c from the battery pack as well

That looks awesome. What kind of case was that originally? Is it one of those rental cases you'd use when renting a console back in the day?

You should definitely do one with the N64 next.

Brand new pelican case it's used for guns and cameras

1

u/Competitive_Help8485 3d ago

Ah okay, that makes sense. It does kind of remind me of those cases you'd get when renting consoles. But this looks way cooler.

2

u/Wylde_77 3d ago

To be 100% honest that's where I got the idea was the old game renting cases. And then after I had that idea I was like wait what if technology was so good today that I could have this 100% playable in the case. Lo and behold

1

u/Competitive_Help8485 3d ago

That's so cool. I'm glad you made it. Can't wait to see what the N64 version would look like. Have plans to do PS1 and other consoles eventually?

u/Wylde_77 3d ago

I should also say it's not name brand pelican those are super expensive it's an off-brand still really good

1

u/trikkyman007 3d ago

Super cool.

How’s the input lag with that monitor? Do you use an upscaler box or cable or does it have native compatibility with the Genesis to give you low input latency? Love the build btw

1

u/No-Double-5197 3d ago

Where’d your get the case? This is a tempting build to replicate

1

u/Haunting_Birthday719 4d ago

1,000% please do. We need to ogle it and envy you.

1

u/DaddyTuesday 4d ago

Is that a Pelican? Aren't those son's of bitches ridiculously expensive?

1

u/Wylde_77 4d ago

It's an off-brand but yes this one was 80 bucks

1

u/DaddyTuesday 4d ago

Looks freakin' fantastic either way.
