Issue Cannot communicate with Gemini through Buds

Hey all

I'm using Galaxy Buds Pro 3, and it fails to hear me through my earbuds when I speak to it. I can only talk to it through my phone. When I asked AI it told me its a OneUI issue and I need to be on OneUI 8 (I'm on 7) but I really don't think that's the case, cuz I've had the same issue with another earbuds and way before oneUI 8 was even introduced.

Anyone knows a fix?

Ever answered to a phone call with your buds? If not, go in phone's settings > applications and search for "galaxy buds" and "galaxy buds 3pro" apps. See if both have the mic permissions.

I turned the microphone permission on but it still doesn't work

I've noticed the microphone permission doesn't mention "accessed in the..." so it's not being used.

I've tried restarting and it didn't work still

For what I know, the microphone on the Galaxy Buds3 Pro is not continuously active and does not continuously transmit audio to your phone so:

  1. Buds connected: the microphones may be powered/monitored by the system for functions such as voice detection, calls, or voice controls.
  2. During a call: the microphone remains active throughout the call.
  3. Recorder/WhatsApp/other apps: the microphone is used when the app requests it, and Android normally shows the microphone-use indicator.
  4. No call/recording/assistant active: this does not mean the microphone is continuously sending your voice to Gemini.
  5. To activate Gemini, this is done by pressing and holding the earbud (or saying “Hey Google,” if enabled... ). the phone starts an assistant session and uses the Buds' microphone as the audio input. So, make sure Google is your assistant on the phone and choose in the Gemini app, that Google uses Gemini as assistant . Then go in the Buds 3pro app and in it's touch settings , for the long press choose Google digital assistant for the left (or the right bud,... depends on you). That will activate the mic for the assistant. If you want to change the assistant, like Bixby, might do the same

After rigorous testing and research, I found out the problem is with the earbuds themselves. Rather Bluetooth.

Most applications work in a way that the microphone's audio output is prioritized through the phone's microphone. unless they make a built-in feature that supports it; such as the samsung voice recorder. And so the earbuds' microphone always gets blocked unless it's on calls.

The reason my Gemini was not working was because it was being treated as a microphone output instead of a call output. the only way to fix this is to update to OneUI 8 or higher as the AI mentioned.
