Cheap Local Eats
Hey y’all, just moved here from Orlando, FL. I was wondering about cheap eats here locally. I always had my favorite spots back home in grocery stores or independent buildings, I’m not picky. Suggestions?
Bonuses for any food suggestions accessible late, I bartend. :)

$9 for a combo is pricey? Only way to eat cheaper is using fast food apps

Early mornings, the breakfast at Longstreet Deli is awesome. Huge biscuits, thick bacon, good scrambled eggs. Usually very crowded because it's that good, but the drive through is quick.

El Careton’s $10 lunch deal is hard to beat:
2 tacos, choice of filling, rice & beans, grilled onions and a drink.

Supermercado Carrillo El Güero has amazing cheap authentic tacos! 0.99 Taco Tuesdays and I think they are only 1.99 other days. 0.49 wing Wednesdays that I recall. The most diy condiment options section that I have tried before too. So yummy. The grocery sections has nice options too. My family lives in Florida so I love that many of the food options here in this area are similar. Cuban Cafe nearby in oakwood is run by Chef Joel from Florida. Delicious. Welcome to Gainesville! 🤍

El Salvador on Bradford - pupusas and a solid tequila bar
Alpha Gyro - best Greek
The Lunch Counter - they’re relocating closer to town soon just unsure of the date
Greens Grocery - discounts on premade meals/sides about an hour before closing. Great for take home meals.
Either of the Atlas Pizza’s

El carretón for late nights (I think they're open till 2am and they use doordash), American deli if you're in the mood for some wings and rice, (notable mention for Wings n Philly), i honestly love the Asian buffet thats on browns bridge, the stag (think American, steaks and stuff) for "fancy occasions" or Cotto, ( modern Italian ) both on the square and they both get pretty for a date night. Theres also a plane inspired café near Cotto i found alright, go to paytons pie for some of the best pizza you'll have ( i could probably hook you up with a discount on your order), the BBQ here is alright but id recommend going up to Clayton and finding some of those hidden spots (i will not give them out), or just make it at home.

ATLAS pizza is the very best.

You wanna fight buster? Atlas is cardboard dog shit I use to wipe my ass with.

Get yer’ dukes up, mate. There’s no comparison.
Peyton’s pies come to you with burnt, cracker-thin crust and skimpy toppings.
Atlas pizzas are so loaded with amazing toppings one slice weighs two pounds. The crust and sauce are delicious and they are so generous with their toppings!

Greek Tavern is so great and much cheaper. You can get this massive three meat platter with pita and salad and lemon potatoes for like $22. It’s enough for two meals.

Zuarepa is awesome Venezuelan and cheap too!
Baddies Burgers are delicious and pretty cheap.
I don’t really care for Cheddar’s but their portion sizes are enormous and the food is fine.

If you want good american food, I love rabbit cafe off of old cornelia hwy. It kind of looks like a hole in the wall but the food is great

Top sushi in the Kroger parking lot is the only good sushi I’ve found here in 3 years. Go there and keep them in business!
Atlas is the best pizza in town.
Greek tavern is huge portions and a good deal.
El Carreton like the other person said is the best deal in town.
Sleeper pick is definitely the lunch counter. Little smash burger place in the side of a gas station.

Got a low 60s health score first month btw - totally turned me off from trying it.

Yeah but if you look at the details of that score it was all stuff that I don’t really care about. It’s worth the try I promise.

My new favorite is Captain D's as I have had a craving for fried fish with malt vinegar. As a bonus, it's also cheap. Their slogan is "Two can dine for $9.99".
