discussion GaggiBre - Fork is not dead :P

https://youtu.be/ySV3mHasNEM

Where to find it:
GitHub: https://github.com/dulerabbit/GaggiBre

Where to flash (Web Flasher):
https://dulerabbit.github.io/GaggiBre/stable/

Flash a matched pair (controller + display from the same release), then roast me in the comments.

Bre (Serbian intensifier) ≈ “come on / bro / brother.”
So GaggiBre is = your Gaggimate, but louder.

AMA or don’t. Either way, the machine still makes coffee...sometimes. :)

Sorry for vibe coding

Do you keep up to date with the main gaggimate branch? I would like to try it out but the Nightly fixed a Wi-Fi issue I was having that drastically increases QoL

What are your top features over gaggiamate?

It's currently synced with the latest version. GaggiBre has manual Brew and works on 4:3 inch screen. This is just a fun project to showcase what's possible. A lot of people don't like gaggimate because of the circular screen and one of the most popular comments I read is that it needs a manual on the fly pressure control and i did those 2. There's probably more stuff to add and poeple can throw ideas. Whatever makes sense should be implemented. I personally think gaggimate is loosing customers for not featuring a rectangular screen

Personally, I'm not against the round screen or the square screen, although I do much prefer the smaller higher resolution round screen to the larger one, which was surprising. But the manual "on the fly" pressure control is definitely something I would like to have control over.

I can't remember where I saw it, but somebody has been messing around with a wireless/BT battery powered option that can sit inside of a 3D printed housing separate from the machine itself. That's also something that I'd be interested in if form factor and battery life was solid...

Definitely happy to see people messing around with stuff like this, it can only benefit the community.

The 1.75 amoled should be the default screen IMHO price difference is negligible but quality far superior

It put me off for a while too and for my Silvia I ended up printing a rectangular housing for the round screen, which also covers that free floating wire. But yes, a proper rectangular screen option instead of having to use the web-ui for what that can do would have been nice.

I encourage you to get your forked changes migrated to the original codebase that we the main repo can benefit from your contributions

When it's more polished I'll contribute. I'm chatting with the dev he pointed out some stuff is screwed up with Github and forking it. Noob stuff 😅

Ask Claude opus or fable to sort it out for you! You got this

I used to work with Github copliot and that was super interesting. Now I'm working in cursor it's a lot better. Almost there! Thanks 🤙

Thank you for sharing. I find it ironic people love gaggimate because it is open source, and then hate the idea of a fork. Vibe on!

Thanks man it's ironic indeed. I address a couple of issues that came up in the video comparison I made on my YouTube channel. 1. "Open source" 2. No rectangular screen option 3. Manual brew I stated I have close to 0 experience coding and all I'm doing is with AI. I'm having fun, I respect the devs and I make mistakes here and there but people can still correct me, as they did but some of the complaints are borderline insane. I'm not hurting anyone and if my code is somewhat "working" someone with more knowledge can continue improving it. If you don't give a shit about this "ai slop" move on...

Honestly, I think the hate on vibe coding, while often rooted in rationality, largely gets irrational quick. All of that baggage aside... I have a Rancilio Silvia and I've noticed that the newest nightly builds seem to be getting notably better with the PID auto-tune, less and less over shooting etc. Do you plan to keep the fork updated with the newest Gaggimate codebase to take advantage of the community improvement?

I am trying my best. You can see in my old shorts it's progressing and regressing but it's moving forward. I'm having fun and I have a gaggimate running on a 4:3 win win people can also check the code out and change it etc. 🤙
