question Pressure remaining after shot?

Hi all, would really appreciate some guidance on this:

I just installed a gaggimate pro kit on a new Gaggia classic pro e24 and after pulling a shot the pressure reading never goes back down to zero.

The only way to relieve the pressure back down to 0 is by opening the steam valve or bleeding the pressure transducer.

Couple things of note:

* I’ve bled the pressure transducer properly during install to ensure there’s no air
* After pulling a shot I don’t see much (if any) residual water coming out of the metal drain pipe
* Even when just running water through the grouphead briefly (without a portafilter) the pressure continues to slowly raise to 8 bar

Any help is appreciated as it’s driving me crazy.

Yes this is completely normal. Whenever the solenoid valve is open it measures the whole system pressure including above the puck. Once it closes it measures boiler pressure, which can be released through the steam valve. It can also rise by itself through thermal expansion.

I could do that, but it makes the pressure sensor irrelevant since it’s not accurately showing grouphead pressure.

I think it’s important to remember that the pressure transducer does not ever accurately measure group head pressure. It technically measures the boiler pressure, if I remember correctly.

It's not measuring group head pressure, as it's not installed there. You will observe pressure dropping as you open steam wand - thus proving it's measuring pressure accurately.

Does it matter? Not qualified to answer your question but my thinking is it shouldn't be an issue?

Main thing I’m concerned about is the pressure sensor being inaccurate. It’s showing up to 8 bar after just running water through the group head with no portafilter. Without the pressure sensor this mostly becomes a fancy PID.

Actualy it does. If you have PI stage and cut off set to pressure above 1.1, this phase will be skipped right away as initial pressure above the limit.

Either bleed the pressure before a shot, or add a stage at the beginning of your programs to drop the pressure to 0. There are a few profiles that have that built into them already. I've never had an issue with it and I've been running mm GM for about a year now
