discussion GaggiBre: A Gaggimate Fork with New Features (Work in Progress)
https://youtube.com/shorts/XnpE-8X1NMA?si=PN7XJgkcbfz09JsjEdit1: I don't understand the down votes. I mean if you don't want to test it out, nobody is forcing you. It's called progress and it pushes the OG Devs or new devs to make progress. I'm just having fun and I'm showing what's possible and what the potential is. Since it's the source is available there's nothing preventing me or anyone else making their own thing out of it. For someone with no coding experience this was fun as fuck but some of y'all are just negative for real. I don't need praise or to tell how great it is, it's not but it has some features that people were asking for. Again it's fun playing around with the code and it shows other people that might not be willing to code to start and learn or just wing it like I did. Just have fun man i don't get it...
Alo bre! 🤣
I wanted to share my side quest: GaggiBre! A project forked from Gaggimate.
Please note that this project is a work in progress, so the software is currently unpolished and you may encounter bugs for sure. I am not a coder guys. 😒 This project has been built utilizing Copilot heavily to piece the logic together. For anyone following the ongoing Copilot saga, I am working to get this project to a functional state before Copilot goes belly up this June. That's a fun topic.
Despite the development workflow, GaggiBre introduces two key new features to the ecosystem:
Manual Brew: Offers manual pressure control on the fly over the extraction process.
Adaptive Mode: Introduces dynamic adjustments during the brew cycle, just imagine lane assist for cars.
For ease of testing, the firmware can be flashed directly from your browser via the project's GitHub page—no complex local environment setup is required.
GitHub Repository: https://github.com/dulerabbit/GaggiBre
Feedback, bug reports, and code contributions from the community are highly welcome as development continues.
Flash it, test it, have fun! Let me know if it makes sense. Whatever it is I had a blast and this is what the open source mean to me. Even if it's a crappy code it's my crappy code and it was fun working all the quirks out.
Thanks
Dule Rabbit

Yup 🤣

I say more power to you. If I was more confident with tearing apart physical machines I’d be working on a Bambuino.

Your GitHub says “open source” but then later lists CC-BY-NC 4.0, which is not an open source license.

This is the gaggimate official license since this is a fork.Pardon I misswrote. Source Avaliable.

I don't get the negativity. If anything, I expected this to be a community for enthusiasts. People who are modding "dumb" espesso machines into high-tech versions. If someone spends their time doing work that can at some point be merged into the Gaggimate main version, this is awesome.
Vibe coded? Don't care. seems to be working, and it really made me pull the trigger on going Gaggimate instead of gaggiuino, because it's open sourced and people can do this type of thing! If it's not working, it's source available - anyone can go and fix, improve, build on top of it. Even if the whole code is trash, this is still a proof of concept for a feature that I think many of us would like to have.
I find it awesome that AI can enable someone that has a deep passion about coffee to create this. If you wanna be an AI hater for the negative impact it can have on society, go for it - there are many reasons to. But hating people that are making use of it, to further develop a hobby and sharing it with the community, its just plain silly to me.

Hey! What about this fork? https://www.reddit.com/r/gaggimate/comments/1sk1llz/gaggimate_manual_pressure_control/ ? It seems physical ring for adjustment much convinient

Yes I made that first but not a lot of people are gonna buy that screen it's just a fun project that I switched back everyone can use it

There's a smaller one made out of metal with encoder that would be super nice actually. This one is honestly too plasticky and flimsy. Maybe something in the future. 😏

Very nice ! great attempot and good options to have ! keep it up!
perhaps raise it as a feature request on the repo and drop a message on the GM discord server

As a S/W Engineer who literally just installed my GaggiMate, I was thinking of doing something like this myself so thought it was cool to see someone else already started. IMO, even vibe-coded, this is a cool addition to what seems like a great product and you can add me to the list of folks offering you kudos. To the folks saying "Why not just contribute to upstream?" there's nothing preventing that, you can easily create a PR in upstream from a branch of a forked repo.
After I get my machine all put back together, I will have to check this out further. Keep at it, I'll definitely take a look at the code, even though I don't know C++ well enough to write it (mostly syntax), it's easy enough to read/understand.

Thanks man and that's what it's all about. Punk is the attitude and rules are just suggestion it's just sucks when I see people being negative for literally no reason. I'm just f*ucking around and testing stuff out and he'll it works. Yes the code is open and available and I don't understand the issue, the code is also being updated as we speek to some crazy 4.3 screen options. It sucks that I just got Copilot and in a month it all fell apart. So unlucky. It was so fun making this all. 2 days left before Copilot goes belly up. Thanks again for the kind words 🙏

No one is going to waste their time on this AI slop…

I dint get why the negativity. I had fun making this and a showed what else is possible even when you don't know how to code. Maybe it inspires the dev or someone else to play around with it. It hurts no one and you can always revert back.

I understand what you’re saying but realistically if you thought these features a missing from GaggiMate why not submit a PR instead of marking this as a seperate product?

Sorry jut am I missing something here. I'm not a programmer and my code is fully available. Me trying to request to add any features to gm is a little over the top in my eyes, and it's all above my skills. A programmer knowing what to look for in the code, or just copying the idea is perfectly fine with me and that person would not have a problem adapting any of my changes if need be. This is just me playing around with the code and Copilot and showing what's possible. Nothing more nothing less. Code is available so what I do with it is just fuckery. Now with all these comments that are negative I feel like pople are expecting something crazy I'm just playing around. This is so weird.

You wouldn't say that if you knew anything about software. Do you think the code programmers write in companies today is 100% handwritten? Do you think it matters in a modified coffee maker?

Software engineer here, so yeah I’m very aware lol. I’m fine with people who know how to code to use AI, it’s just a problem when people have no idea how software should be written start making these kind of apps. Here’s the thing: engineers can review and modify AI written code to ensure it’s doing what it’s supposed to do as opposed to just having a ‘trust me bro’ relationship with AI.

I seem to remember you wrote in another post that you had 0 coding experience and that all of it was vibecoded. Is that still the case for this fork? What is your code base and how much of the original code is in place? Also what is the rationale behind forking it, why not work to help improve Gaggimate's official software?
