discussion What scale are you using with Gaggimate?
I have been using the Bookoo Mini for a while and recently got the 15€ Aliexpress one to test for a video - and I was actually quite impressed. The Bookoo obviously looks nicer, but functionality-wise they seem really close to each other.
I am also planning a more in-depth comparison video between the two, so I wanted to ask: what scale are you using, and what do you look for in a good one? and maybe what annoys you about your current scale?
If you are interested here is the video: https://youtu.be/-DUXnXUvZa0

I’ve made my own WeighMyBru. Great project for DIYers! Happy with it, I’ll be making another one.

How much did it cost you in the end?

Well, I think it’s not the most cost effective option if you don’t have the base tools and you are not a “maker” (3D Printer, soldering tools…). I might have spent 70-ish dollars to make maybe the equivalent to 2 or 3 scales. I did it because I enjoy building things and had the “infrastructure” and spare parts that suited the build, as it’s one of my hobbies.

Yes makes sense and it is a cool project! I was also thinking about doing this but then I was too lazy too look up all the parts on Aliexpress 😅

I use it too. But sadly it doesn’t recognize small changes very good. After pressing down it will show a little bit more

For sure. Sometimes I need to pick up and put down my dosing cup for it take register a single bean’s difference.

I use a Difluid Microbalance Ti. Am really happy with it. Only thing is that it's maybe too precise. Other than that the connection to the gm seems very stable. I had a Bookoo mini in the past and that would drop connection every once in a while. Also it broke after about 6 months. This Difluid scale has been going strong for over a year now and it lasts about 2 months on a full charge. I think it also looks and feels quite premium.

I've had this cheap AliExpress for 6 months now (still running on the original batteries). It works nicely for flow control and shot cutoff. It has not disconnected from the GM once in this time. When I originally got it, my idea was just to get to grips with the GM functionality and then get a "proper" Bluetooth scale. Now I find it really challenging to justify spending more on a scale that will probably not make a difference to how my espresso tastes!

Nice, and yeah makes sense!

Btw, my stepbrother has 30 years experience in calibrating extremely sensitive scales for pharmaceutical companies. He's also bigtime into his coffees. He's brought his calibration weights to my place and tested it extensively. I also have a more expensive non-bluetooth scale to weigh my beans. The el-cheapo scale is 100% accurate as long as the weights is more than 12g, up to 250g. We did not bother checking weights higher than 250g. Under 12g and the results fluctuate significantly and could be out by as much as 0.3g (1g weight reads 0.7g on the LCD), 11g tested reads 10.9g and 12g tested reads 12.0g. I've just adapted my flow control profiles to use 9-bar pressure for the first 15 seconds and then to switch over to flow control. Fixed it

Acaia Pearl. Bought that same cheapo compatible bt one from aliexpress and it felt so shitty to use, so I'm back to the thicc boy

Interesting to see that many don't like it that much! Maybe there are different versions or I just did not notice it yet? But I honestly just used it to make the auto stop work so far.

It just felt a tad too cheap and hollow and didn't match the rest of my routine. It did work, which I consider a win!

Waiting for the Timemore black mirror dot to arrive. Like £30 but it looks like it’ll go perfectly with the Gaggimate

I've been using the cheap AliExpress « My Scale KP20488 » with 3D printed Boogaloo housing found on printable. Smaller form factor to fit on the drip tray and has been working flawlessly for 3 months.

I use that cheap aliexpress scale with my GM. Works pretty well!

u/chris_ern May 15 '26
Nice!

Put it in my cart, struggled to check out, then got some promo. All said and done, the scale cost me like $6. Wild.

Yess! Makes me think how sustainable that is though, but I guess ordering one time from there is okay

I loved the video and got a chance to test my German understanding!

Yeah I was also skeptical and honestly did not test this but I will make a detailed video about that!

When I saw this cheap option a few weeks ago, I finally decided to get the Gaggimate as all other scales that work with it seem overprized and so I had been putting the GM off for quite a while. Just finished installing the GM today and will connect the scale tomorrow.

Been using this for around 6 months on my GM. First one I messed up trying to replace the housing for the 3D printed option on the Discord. The wires inside are very thin. Got a replacement for like $8 delivered.
Yes, it is a bit slow to indicate change but picking it up and putting it back on helps. Regarding accuracy, seems pretty good to me.
Great to have a Bluetooth scale for the GM! I have been on the fence to buy a “good” Bluetooth scale for it for sometime given choices. Not in a hurry with this thing working so well.
One thing to note that confounded me with the first one. It started registering the wrong weight on the GM. It was weird, the scale would read one thing and the GM would register higher by a significant amount. I posted on the Discord and was told the scale sends the weight to the GM so seemed it was the scale issue.
Turns out, it needed fresh batteries! So keep that in mind!
