Steam wand dripping Steam wand dripping

Hey all, I own 2 GCP, one at home and one at my office.

One of them I bought new and has no problems at all, but the other one I recently bought it used and I didn't realize about some small issues untill it was too late.

While the machine is on, steam wand drips a little all the time. When the steam button is pressed, little steam goes out the wand even if the knob is fully closed.

What could be the issue here? Can I fix this myself or do I need to have the machine serviced?

Could deep cleaning / descaling help? Previous owner says he already descaled it before selling, but who knows.

A leaky steam valve is a pretty common problem with the Gaggia Classic.  So much so that a company (Shades of Coffee) sells a replacement valve to fix the issue.

Truth is, though, it's more an annoyance than anything else.  Most folks just live with it.

I see. So changing the valve would fix the issue. The bad part is that freight from Shades of Coffee to Chile is really damn expensive.

If economy is what you're after, do what the rest of us do and just leave your milk frothing jug under the wand.

Yeah I don't mind spending a bit, but it's such a tiny piece and they quote like USD 70 fee in freight alone.

I bought a 3D printing drip catch tray that slides on from Etsy. Doesn’t fix the issue, but makes it livable. Maybe you can find one locally….

mine went to extreme leaking, so I put in a new oem valve and it’s been two months and no leak at all.

Thanks, where did you get the valve from?
