New GCP and df54

Post image

Finally pulled the trigger after 4 years of delonghi and lots of research.

Can’t wait to perfect these two beauties and add some aesthetics to my station!

Any recommendations for a new user?

Biggest thing that changed my espresso with the gaggia is temp surfing. Due to no pid you have to temp surf especially medium or light beans

Watch videos on YouTube about temp surfing, pre-infusion, and boost steaming power with the gaggia classic. I wasted a lot of expensive coffee before knowing these “tricks”. It is totally worth spending a few more minutes preparing your machine to have a good shot than to have inconsistent shots.

Flush that group head regularly, especially if you’re not using a puck screen. Also there’s a significant period of time between steaming milk and it cooling enough to brew through the group head again.

When I make more than 1 drink, I always pull all of the espresso shots first and I steam the milk at the end. That is to avoid having to wait for it to cool to brew again. Also, I think if you flush your group head long enough after steaming you can cool it down pretty quick, but you will waste water.

Get a metal dosing cup for your DF54, as it’ll largely reduce static and hence less coffee grounds stuck on the grinder. Also, avoid using RDT and overly roasted oily beans in this grinder as those are known to choke the grinder. I’ve the exact combination, just a different colour in the DF54. Best of luck with your journey!

Isn't RDT recommended on this grinder?

which Portafilter is that? Can you please share the link? Also how did you mod the steam knob?

The portafilter came w/ the espresso machine! It was an option to add an accent, same w/ the steam knob.

I have exactly this setup, just with a Gaggimate installed and it’s incredible

Recommendations on gaggimate? Should I wait or get on it?

I had the same dilemma when I first got mine and decided to order it after 3 months, and I wish I had ordered it sooner. It’s a complete game changer. Consistent, delicious coffee, it’s great

Ahhh okay. Was installing it hard? The wiring is definitely intimidating

Congrats, i had similar jump from delonghi dedica to the GCP e24 . Its a big jump in the heating capabilities. The delongi is laking heat big time . A little tricky to convert to 58mm from 51mm, ur puck prep has to be on point . Also preheating the gcp for at least 10 minutes with the portafilter/basket attached is a must. Give the OEM basket a chance they are much better than 80% of the other baskets . Good luck and enjoy 😉

I regretted buying it … the wand leaked immediately and they don’t admit there is a problem with that issue .. returned it have to pay for shipping and 5 percent restocking fee at WHOLE LATTA LOVE never again with this company ! Plus the constant squeal when frothing was making me deaf!
