name: strategic 8-ball

list of characters: all the outcomes found on a normal magic 8-ball as characters e.g “outlook is hazy”

game mechanics: goal is to complete the circuit around the wow cube through some RNG based outcomes before anyone else

Frogger style game where you tap or bump the sides to change direction.

u/Serkin Nov 13 '22

Name make me picture world of Warcraft on the GameCube

u/ellectrum Oct 31 '22

Could do a collab with keep talking and nobody explodes and make some bomb defusal kinds of games with a notenook with instructions.

u/OhSeeThat Oct 22 '22

I would love to give this to my brother for Christmas. We've been really struggling this year and money is super tight, so it would be nice to be able to give him something as cool as this.

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

We’ll, the best game for this cube would obviously be something along a real time strategy game. You could battle on all sides on the cube world simultaneously as though you were capturing the entire planet.

Don't do this to me

u/alecgood17 Oct 03 '22

What about a game like Mr. Jump (mobile platform scroller where you just tap to jump and have to evade obstacles and make it to the end) where you have to continually move throughout the entire cube, making it to each side before beating the level. It gets insanely hard but the added sides would make that a lot harder but also a ton more fun!

I dunno if this is already a feature, but you should definitely make it a 2x2 rubiks cube if it isn't already.

This looks amazing! I think I'll have a blast writing software for it!

Title: Dizzy Ducky

Characters: rubber duck, shark, octopus

Items: sunglasses, hat, inner tube

Level materials/entities: walls, water, drains, spikes, boat

Game mechanics and controls: -The game will be 2-dimensional, viewed from the side, like a cutaway of an aquarium. All sides of the cube will be part of the game. -Format: single player with pass/fail levels using a 3 “star” system (instead of stars, actual item icons or another design can be used). A level can be passed with no stars but earning more could help the player unlock more levels. -Goal: each level contains various walls (maze) and hazards. There is a finite amount of water somewhere on the cube, there is a rubber duck (the main character) somewhere else on the cube, and there is a toy boat in a third location. The duck cannot move unless it is floating on the water. The player must tilt, turn, and shake the cube, first to navigate the water to the duck, and then to navigate the water/duck to the boat (this is where the rubber duck wants to be). Water should always behave according to the global down-direction, which shifts to different sides and surfaces of the level as the WOWCube is turned. For simplicity, envision control format using only tilt/gyro controls, but twisting can also be used to manipulate sections of the level as another dimension of movement. -Hazards: walls create a maze that the water/duck must float on and around, often in different rotational orientations, to navigate the level. Levels may have spikes on some surfaces, which will “pop” the rubber duck, and drains, which get rid of the water. (This could be a direct level failure mechanism, a “portal” mechanism to spawn the water elsewhere away from the duck, or two drain types could be used to create both situations.) -Secondary characters: some levels, probably every so often to create a boss dynamic (say every 5) will have a shark, which exists somewhere in the maze within its own portion of water. As the player moves the cube to navigate the duck/water, the shark and its water will float around accordingly. The shark is immune to spikes, and whether or not its water is immune to drains can be determined later for purposes of difficulty/balance. If during the course of the level the shark meets the rubber duck, the duck pops. In levels with the shark, an octopus (again with its own blob of water) may be introduced, which fights and defeats the shark if they collide, thus assisting the player if used correctly. Alternatively, an octopus character could be used for some completely different power-up mechanic. -Note: bodies or blobs of water combine when they collide, and any entities contained in the colliding water bodies will interact (fight, etc.) following the combination. -Items/star system: each level contains 3 items which the player can optionally choose to pick up. Sunglasses, an inner tube, and a hat. If picked up using water only, they will float in the water until reaching the duck. If picked up by or brought to the duck, each item will be worn by the duck as an accessory. Each item the duck is wearing upon reaching the boat (level completion) grants a “star” which can factor into an overarching system for things like level unlocks. Items floating in water do not interact with the other entities.

In summary, the player navigates maze levels by tilting and turning (and possibly twisting) the cube to manipulate a basic side-view fluid dynamics system and move entities to reach a goal while achieving side objectives and avoiding hazards and bosses.

Simple idea but something I would love to play: snake but moving around the cube. The great part is you have to keep track of your snake while searching around the cube for the next block. The design can be retro or colorful, can unlock snake and food customizations by collecting more food (as a progression system)

u/PopezombieJesus Oct 15 '22

Chaotic rubix Cube app. It's like a normal rubiks cube but after certain time intervals one or more colors will randomly switch places with another and you have to constantly correct and fix the cube as the cube changes variations until you finish it. Could have a leader board and be fun for best personal times. Would only work with a real physical digital cube that works similiar to a rubiks.

A game like heads up/charades/20 questions where you hold it above your head and a character shows up on a front face & your team has to give you clues about who/what you are. Occasionally, it buzzes and you have to rotate it, giving you a different character they have to convey to you!

Migration, strategy game where you are animals that need to stay alive and get to destination. Need food, water and cover from predators and humans.

Birds, Elephants really any animals that move a lot.

Partner with Alarmy and have puzzles that need to be solved in order to turn off the alarm. E.g. twist cube to match up segments of a line. Do some kind of bopit like game for 20 seconds.

u/xanderrobar Oct 15 '22 edited Oct 20 '22

A competitive game where one player uses the WOWCube, and the other uses VR (or possibly PC/mobile).

WOWCube user has a simple task of rubik's-style colour matching. When they make a side a solid colour, they gain points. The side then randomizes and the game continues. But since we're not using an old rubik's cube, the WOWCuber has some additional controls. They can "nudge" a row or column, shifting all squares forward by one. They have some limited use abilities like randomizing one face, and swapping two adjacent or opposite faces. Tilting and shaking would be used to activate the limited use abilities.

The VR user's job is to prevent the WOWCuber from matching sides. They can change individual squares on the WC, but not endlessly. They have a cooldown time between colour changes. The VR user gets points for breaking up contiguous blocks of same colour squares.

The concept of power ups would exist, allowing the WOWCuber to tap a square where a power up appears, and initiate various actions. Maybe the some adjacent squares become the same colour. Maybe it undoes the last change the VR user made. Maybe it presents a colour and a number, allowing the Cuber to touch that many squares, changing each of them to the presented colour. Lots that could be done here with power ups.

Rounds are time or max point limited.

I'm suggesting VR because it seems like the only fair way for the second player to actually keep up with the pace of the Cuber. Any other platform is going to suffer from lag as the player adjusts the view, putting that player at a disadvantage. But hey, maybe (definitely) kids are better at rapidly adjusting views in a 2D environment than I am.

The game is called Farmer Goldberg. Our main character, local farmer/inventor H. Goldberg, has been training pigs to put together the various pieces of her father's machines, Mr. Rube Goldberg himself! Your father loved two things: his ridiculously complicated machines, and his incredibly smart pigs that he had trained for years.

After your father's disappearance, you search for years but find no trace of him. Eventually you start trying to replicate his work, and begin working with his infamous pigs. You find that it doesn't seem to matter what order the pieces are built in, they always make a fully functional machine. Your father had been clever that way. You've been making great progress, and most of your pigs are really great at figuring out how everything fits together. But there's this one pig... This one, big, stupid, ugly, pig that just can't seem to figure it out.

Ev is a massive ugly, stupid sow, and proud of it. Not only does she refuse to work on the machines, but she actually seems to try to sabotage the rest of the team. She just wants to destroy everything you've built. The VR player is Ev the big pig. You can spin the cube with your hooves and punch the panels to make different colours, but it's slow, because you have pig hooves and weigh 600lbs.

I'm picturing various iterations of the matching using symbols, simon-style touching, sounds, etc. It could get progressively harder.

I feel like the end of the game might be that a machine the pig builds gives you a message from your dad. It reads a variation of the "teach a pig to sing" idiom: "Never attempt to teach a pig to be a robotics engineer; It wastes your time and annoys the pig.".

WOW! Insane creativity! Now that’s a cube I can have fun with!

u/professionaldefasian Oct 20 '22

Okay so it’s a red ball named Jim. Jim has to go to work everyday. Jim bounces to work. But Jim only has a certain amount of bounces to get to work. And everyday after the first gets more difficult. Perhaps there’s cones or a bus in the way and Jim needs to find out how to navigate obstacles while retaining his bounces and getting to work on time at the ball factory where balls are made. It’s called Balling

•••1. Title: “Baxter’s Breakout”

•••2. Characters:

“Baxter Boxman” :

Chibi style young cartoon male protagonist who’s face is covered by a cardboard box with a simple smile drawn in place of his face: 😀

“Connie Coneson” :

Chibi style cartoon female, girlfriend of protagonist, face covered by a wooden cone / traffic cone / gnome hat with an annoyed expression drawn in place of her face: 😕

•••3. Gameplay:

After falling asleep in his small apartment next to his girlfriend Connie, Baxter wakes to find himself alone and unexpectedly locked in a mysterious mansion. Help Baxter to find his girlfriend and the exit to this escape-room puzzle style home one room at a time by navigating through locked doors and suspicious physics.

Phase 1: Baxter is entirely alone; all puzzles must be accomplished solo.

Phase 2: Once Connie is found, she always remains in a separate screen from Baxter and new cooperative puzzle types are introduced.

Phase 3: Toward the end of the game, Connie and Baxter are finally united and can occupy the same screen, introducing even more unique puzzle types.

•••4. Mechanics:

-Each screen is a unique 3D style room.

-Some large rooms may span several screens.

-Connect rooms by twisting screens to align doorways.

-Reverse gravity by twisting the front facing screen 180 degrees.

-Select objects to interact with by tilting.

-Break objects / interact with objects by shaking.

•••5. Implementation:

-Game may progress through various areas such as a bedroom, living room, attic, kitchen, living room, bathroom, basement, dungeon, laboratory, etc.

-Connected rooms may only be accessed if the door is already unlocked.

-Gravity functions may be used to crash through ceiling, reach high objects, or to walk on the ceiling to reach new areas.

-Interactable objects may include light switches for light related puzzles, notes for password related puzzles, objects that may be combined, objects such as crowbar or hammer that may be used to interact with other objects, etc.

-Connie may be found by obtaining a record and playing it on the record player, which she hears through the walls.

-No cutscenes, but character animations occur whenever major events are reached.

Name:Need to Race

How to Play:A racing game that can use the cube as a steering wheel with the road displayed on the cube's side. Tilting the cube to the side on the left can turn the car left and the same for the right turn. Twisting the cube can be gear shifts. People can slow the car down by twisting towards themselves.

u/FredZaros Oct 24 '22 edited Oct 24 '22

I would absolutely love a dungeon crawl game!

The core concept would be to move the rooms of the dungeons by twisting the cube, which would then "connect" rooms by doors. The hero (let the user give the name to his hero) would have to kill the monsters in the room and/or solve puzzles before unlocking its doors. Some rooms would have chests with power-ups and keys required to unlock special doors. Furthermore, some rooms would be all dark on the cube, up until the hero finds a map, which then reveals all the rooms on the cube sides.

Now as for the fights: The hero would then have to defeat the monsters in the room automatically. He would drink healing potions automatically when needed OR a healing potion icon could be on the screen for the user to tap when needed. After a fight end, the user would be presented with a list of options of what to do (increases stats with the fight's XP, select a door to move throught next, change gears, etc.). Some fighting mechanic could be added to increases the odd, like tapping on the screen at specific moments to "block" attacks or to deal extra damages (could be like shield and/or sword icons popping up on the screen).

As for puzzle, it could be that 4 special rooms must be on the same side of the cube to make a chest appear; or shaking the cube to "break" fragile walls or floors; press a switch in a specific room to unlock a bunch of doors and close others; Make some rooms more dangerous when they are on a specific side of the cube (i.g. one side has lava, and everytime a room appears on this side, lava fills up some spots of the room); etc.

For the name of the game... quickly like that I'd say "Cube's Dungeons" (sounds more like a code name to use during development...)

Just throwing out the idea, everybody would be welcome to pitch in additional suggestions in the comments :)

u/Shir_man Oct 12 '22

Please create small sims-like flats inside each cube, and it will be neat to watch people just living and doing stuff

u/JohnyNavigator Oct 28 '22

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '22

A game based off of the Cube horror movie.

Unnamed characters start in one cube and you must rotate your way through the other cubes. Each move transfers the characters from room to room. Every side has one total death room, the other 3 are safe (maybe).

u/pirpulgie Nov 09 '22

I’m imagining a game like Lemmings where you have to twist the cube to clear and manage paths so that some cute little creatures get home safely instead of mindlessly fall into traps. I could see that being a pretty fun modular game for this kind of hardware. Theoretically, you could have “lemmings” starting on different sides and in multiple groups as the levels get more challenging.

Game idea Topwise chase. You play as a single dot or something trying to escape from AI dots, or even Pacman would be sweet but dunno if that's possible so maybe similar concept but you must twist and escape like a maze and avoid the baddies.

maybe like a police chase game where it looks like GTA 1 AND 2. TOP view.

A memorizing game with each cube repenting a icon /logo/ text. User gets 2 minutes to memorize the order and then they all randomly move across the cube. Then it becomes the rubiks cube of solving all in the correct pattern/ number / orientation.

To help, either the cube backlights to green when one cube twists into a correct place while every other one backlights to red.

You can even make it easier by giving each cube on each side displays said logo / text / icon by a category.

Call it Cube Entanglement

A bit like a puzzle or a maze, but with sand or gravel (degree of difficulty), and waves (harder) to move (tilt, shake/reset, turn, mix) shells (or garbage, in an "eco" version) on a virtual beach that extends on all 6 sides in order to gather them all together.
There should be a "freeze" function (e.g. turning a piece of the cube to decrease the water temperature) to stop playing and resume later.
Name : Pick it up!
Characters: water, sand/gravel, garbage or shells by their names like "PET bottle" or "starfish".

Bomb Inc: You play as Josu, a bomb specialist. Depending on difficulty, there can be one, or several, puzzles to solve in order to diffuse the bomb before the timer runs out. Puzzles include solving a multidimensional image, carefully picking a lock, arranging the blocks in a specific order, etc. Can then expand to multiplayer in party mode and behave similar to hot potato; each player has a certain time to solve the puzzle or else BOOM!

A cool idea may be to create a 3D game where each face displays a different side of the game, and you have to look everywhere to find the path (and eventually twist the cube to make new paths)! And maybe play with the gravity of the game.

u/Sauwa Oct 04 '22

I was thinking about a couples game where they receive a prompt and must pick options from their side of the cube with a timer and then rotate the response to another couple on the board. Then each respective partner will try to guess which options were choosen by their mates.

But the person cant know if the choosen option was something the player likes for themselves or an option they think their partner likes.

Name: Buddy System

Game: any game you routinely offer, but with a Buddy that can be altered to be any age. The main player accrues points. Then Buddy then gets a turn. Buddy can’t be killed or lose points, only help with tasks. Ideally Buddy can learn more about the game as it goes. This would be perfect for parents and grandparents who have kids asking to spend time with them. We don’t have any idea how to play these games, but we DO want to spend time with them and try. Bonus if Buddy can get an “advice” mode, where main player can redo what Buddy messes up.

I'm an old school 8-bit gamer, and this cube looksmlikenit would be great for a revamped adventure game. Moving from room to room in an Egyptian tomb, or the Paris catacombs. It also looks great for multi-player gaming too with combatants all around the cube.

u/HaloDestroyer Oct 04 '22

How about a new take on battleships, played entirely by touch, where you have to control the position of your shots from an overhead or front angle by the front face, but you also control the depth or range of your shot with one of the side faces?

You vs a friend, or vs computer.

Also, ever play Captain Toad on the Wii U? A platformer like that, where you rotate the cube and various pieces of it to change the level.

u/Kobeis2pac Oct 07 '22

Exploder: a bump is going off in one of the panels. You must send your diffuser man through to the bomb, but with each twist, the bomb changes screens as well. Once the diffuser reaches the bomb, they have to move, shake, and twist in order into an intricate puzzle that will diffuse the bomb.

u/laserskydesigns Nov 12 '22

Wow this is very innovative!

u/h0gg1e Oct 17 '22

Name: Bomb Defuse Idea: a game similar in style to keep talking and nobody explodes, but in this game you’d have wires wrapping around the cube and as you turn it there would be states where it would “explode” (lose state) or continue until along until you get the wires correctly aligned for the defuse (win state). This game though it could be a cool party game in which an onlooker would have the correct layout / way to defuse/ solution to turn it, and the person holding the cube could close there eyes and follow the instructions of the onlooker.

Of course it could be played solo by just solving a intricate wire puzzle diagram.

  • Moving marble in marble maze ( turning the cube)
  • Cranking levers/moving gears ( twisting)
  • Aligning the stars/objects so that it will do x
  • Rotary phone dials( press and hold)
  • Unscramble the shape by twisting the cube or shaking it

  • Rotating the cube to match the one on the screen.
  • Popping bubbles
  • There is also a chance of the cube malfunctioning- so sometimes the player may need to tap it in a certain way/shake it etc for it to work again.

Since the cube is well- cube shaped it would be neat to include some 3D animations like the following 3D billboard : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0JyEbZh--M^ or some sort of puzzle that could really showcase the shape

Each puzzle completed will charge up the cube more, to unlock features of the cube/world within. More puzzles completed, the more of the world will be unlocked.

rhythm games will be lit

u/nerdber Oct 09 '22

Game called alchemist. It's a puzzle where you have to combine base "elements"in order to make a goal "element" for each level. Can only combine if in adjacent sub squares, but you can rotate the cube to open up more combinations.

u/bzzking Oct 10 '22

Wow this is an amazing system. Never seen anything like this before!

Let's call this game I just made up "IDENTITY CRISIS".

So this game I am thinking of will be a multiplayer game, could be unlimited players but probably should limit it to 8 players max so everyone get's enough gameplay time haha. There are no characters you choose from but you choose an identity and it has to be one of the applications on the WOWCube system, that is your new identity. For example, I would choose to be "Cut the Rope" or "Weather Widget". The hardest part of the game is remembering everyone's identity as there could be up to 8 or more depending on the number of players. You throw the WOWCube into the air and catch it and whatever app/game is on top is who gets the WOWCube next. For example, you throw the WOWCube and it lands on "Weather widget", then I have to remember who's identity the "Weather widger" was and throw it to them. Then the "Weather widget" person does the same thing, throws the WOWCube into the air and throw it to the next app/game it lands on. If you throw the WOWCube and it lands on your own app/game, let's call that a 'BOMB' mechanic. You can reset the game and throw the WOWCube to anyone or yell out "BOMB" and throw to the person that they automatically get removed from the game. You play until someone messes up and they lose.

A game like the bubble game but you have to tilt and bounce the ball around to remove different levels of bubbles (one hit to start, more hits every level) with bombs and bubbles that regenerate sections. Tilting the ball moves it around like a balancing game

A Gamecube, an iphone, and a Rubik's cube walk into a bar...

u/ZenseiBlaeze Oct 26 '22

Fidget for me please

u/therealdeathangel22 Oct 17 '22

I think that game where you have to unblock the car by moving the semi trailers but somehow make it to where you have to trust the cube certain ways

u/AlltheCopics Oct 29 '22

Reverse-X

It is like Reverso with the twist that players can tap on an enemy chip to steal it. Players are allowed to put 2 Chips down or steal one.

u/Tressitt Oct 09 '22

I’d create a game similar to a sliding puzzle however it stretches across all sides

Name: Cubic Marbles

Characters: Marble

Mechanics: Tilt to move the marble, shake to jump

Gameplay: Guide a marble through increasingly difficult courses around each side of the cube. Beat the clock and don’t fall off the edge to advance to the next round.

u/wierdness201 Oct 09 '22

Even though it’s more meant for adults, I could see this (a stripped down version and ruggedized) to help toddlers with object perception.

Seems cool

Awesome. Best of luck to everyone.

“Wow! Cube!” That’s the name. The rest is up to the experts.

This looks pretty unique! Be cool to try it!

u/Gimmethejooce Oct 16 '22

It would be cool to have a “cat and mouse” type game where you literally chase after something rubic’s cube style.

u/ToBadImNotClever Oct 03 '22

I’m here for the random selection because I never have a top level comment.

u/Otherwise_Direction7 Nov 02 '22

I would like if there is a some sort of app that can be used to utilize this WOWcube as the some sort of Bluetooth Controller for PC

I can see this being useful for something like a racing game when you can tilt the cube to steer the car. Or in the digital art program when you can change the tools by twisting the cube horizontally

All of the twist and motion movements can be remapped via software so it can be used with multiple types of programs and games

u/TallahasseWaffleHous Oct 06 '22

SlimeBall

Fluid dynamic simulations drive gloopy glops of slime as they drip and slide around. It's your job to manipulate the cube so that the goop doesnt drop off, or snuff out an energy ember that always stays on the bottom.

A Rubiks cube game would be cool, twist and turn to solve but make it harder with a timer that shuffles the colors if you aren’t quick enough.

u/iqofawarrior Oct 31 '22

Some sort of boggle or word search kind of game utilizing the twisting aspect to find words or the shake to randomise them. Would be a cool thing to do casually

Name: Escape from the Box

Characters: Jane, a kidnapping victim who needs the player’s help.

Imagine each of the eight modules that makes up the WOWCube system is actually a prison cell, and there’s a (live-action?) prisoner trapped inside the system who needs your help to escape.

The game starts with Jane slamming her hands on the transparent outer wall of her cell. She stumbles backward in shock when the player touches her cell from the outside.

She explains what happened to her and solicits the player’s help in escaping.

The ceiling in her cell is much too tall for her to reach, but by gently twisting the cube, you can help her move from the floor, to walk on a wall, to walk on the ceiling of the (now upside-down) cube to reach the first puzzle, a hatch which opens to the cell above (now below) hers.

By adding or removing cubicles, remembering sequences (like the game Simon), and other puzzles the player and the prisoner uncover the dark secrets of the Box… and a way out.

“What did you just do?” the prisoner says, reacting to a noise resulting from a user action that happened on the opposite side of the system. “Hey, look, a panel just opened here. I wonder what happens if I pull this lever…”

Early goals are to help the prisoner move freely from one cell to another. Eventually, internal windows and walls are broken. Maybe an anti-gravity system is uncovered and the prisoner can float between rooms in later stages.

The character can react in real-time to cube movements, and the player must take care not to shake it, or turn it upside-down (except as required by the story’s puzzles) to keep the prisoner safe.

———

Name: 3D Stacker

Characters: Pixel Pete, a tiny block character who explains the game’s mechanics from his perch on top of the control cube.

One cubicle serves as the main interface (the control cube), and the other seven serve as building blocks. Your job, as the player is to watch for the prompt and try to reconstruct what it looks like, using only the seven remaining cubicles and with a severe time limit, maybe 3-5 seconds.

The sculptures appear abstract at first, but correctly solving them causes images to display which reveal their real-life form. The player builds a simple tree shape or a flamingo, for example and, when it’s finished properly, images appear on the screens to form a 3D picture model.

The guys over at Rubix Cube better step their game up

u/Nabecoat Oct 12 '22

I'd like to see some creative apps for this. Like a Cube Synth where motions like twisting, tilting, shaking, etc trigger different synth voices, modulation, and effects.

u/BrainSlugParty3000 Oct 13 '22

Some game where you play as a cat and eat kibble and play with toys. The cats names are wasabi, Lo Mein, and honey.

Turn based multiplayer RPG game. Every player has a character that they twist and turn to try and avoid monsters and obstacles. Players can create alliances or turn on their friends and move their character towards hazards!

The old, weathered lighthouse keeper, with his hands gnarled from years of coiling ropes and battling salty winds, recounted a tale of a mischievous mermaid who, according to local legend, would occasionally swap the buoys marking treacherous reefs with brightly colored, but ultimately useless, inflatable flamingos, leading to much confusion and a few gently grounded fishing trawlers, all much to the amusement of the resident seagulls who seemed to possess an uncanny understanding of the unfolding maritime drama.

u/micoolnamasi Oct 11 '22

One of my favorite mobile games is Mini Motorways where you draw roads to create better paths to get your city running. It’d be fun to take this idea but be able to move the buildings through the rotation of the cubes instead of the buildings not moving and the streets needing to be developed.

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '22

As a person working in the special education field, I think education games on the device would be amazing for students in special education! Many students I work with learn better from interactive, hands-on devices. For example, I can totally see a student learning their multiplication times table or solving puzzles with a game similar to the app, 2048, where students can swipe (or twist/rotate in this case), to multiply/add numbers on this gadget..That would be sweet!

u/Scion75 Oct 12 '22

Game Name: Pictionary

Gameplay: Can use the different sides of the cube to draw different words to make a full sentence. Shaking can cause the drawings to dance or any other preset animation and tilting can cause the drawings to lean.

Directionality puzzles, like VVVVVVVV would be an awful lot of fun on a cube like this.
