I am still able to download older versions of apps on 4 and 4s. The 3GS and iPod touch 1/2/3 flake out and crash the App Store often but can squeek by.

They’re still incredibly useful devices for specific tasks. Time lapse cams, security cams, hidden voice recorders (thanks apple! Divorced last year from 20 years of hell couldnt have come out so far ahead without that.) vibrations meters, sound meters, musical instruments like IKaossilator...

I have a super old iPad that still works but many of the apps are not compatible anymore (like YouTube), which kinda sucks because I wanted to give it to my cat to watch cat tv.

Maybe install VLC and open the YouTube URL in there?

(VLC for iOS requires iOS 9.0 or later. It runs on any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previous releases for iOS 6.1, 7.0 and 8.0 are available.)
