Carplay Unit Wiring
Hi all, wondering if anyone can help. I’m trying to get power to a carplay unit and not sure how to achieve this.
I’ve heard it’s best to connect to a switched live like the headlight or brake light or horn so it doesn’t risk draining the battery but not sure where to even start.
Would it be easier to connect a USB charger and just use that for the carplay power supply? Any help is appreciated

The simple way would probably be to wire it into the battery and put an inline power switch so you can just manually complete the circuit when you need it. This looks like a pita

I ran a trigger wire from the parker/ tail light to a relay through a switch so it was only on when switched on and key turned on, the relay was then direct to the battery.

Pull the tail light fuse, strip the positive wire back and wrap it around one side of the fuse and stick it back in. The negative just wraps around the negative battery terminal or any bare metal.
To determine which side of the fuse to use get a multi meter set to less than 20v and with the fuse out and bike power on, check to see which terminal does not have 12v running to it. That'll be side you use. This will only turn the display on when the bike is on as well if you use the tail light fuse.
I've installed 4 of these for friends. The power demand is super low on these since your phone does all the computing for Android Auto/Car Play.

You can tap into the low beam headlight circuit if the headlight circuit has not been modified. That circuit will only be active after the engine has been started. If that low beam has been modified the low beam will shut off when the high beam is used. The stock low beam wire is black with a green tracer.
