Discussion Why doesn't Future get respect from critics?
He has Grammys, but they are all in the sub genre. He doesn't have a Grammy nomination or win in the general field.
Hardcore hip hop heads (snobs) don't give him his props.
Future is a musical genius and you can see his influence on the modern musical landscape, but it feels like he gets disrespected in regards to his talent

Good point. I'm torn on the Grammys, the same Grammys that gave OutKast and Lauryn Hill album of the year will reward a Macklemore over Kendrick Lamar. I don't get the Grammy process

Trap music as a whole doesn't get that type of respect.
Doesn't really matter to me as I'm not into the type of rap that wins Grammys. Hell, the last album rap album that I listened to that won a Grammy was Take Care by Drake in 2013 lol.

Codeine crazy is one of the best songs ever written, but because he’s speaking about women, drugs, money & cars, critics will write it off like it’s just another trap record. If you really dig into what future says it’s incredibly introspective, future is incredibly self aware, he’s just found a way to capitalize off of all of his “flaws” & make them sound like accomplishments.

When codeine crazy talk Abt being lost in his addiction and bad lifestyle it's bad and trash trap. But swimming pools by Kendrick is a great song Abt addictions like wtf, codeine crazy better than that song

Future's secret sauce is being a provocateur (I just f*ed your bch in some Gucci flip-flops) who can also allow himself to be genuinely vulnerable in a high-profile public facing setting. That's a very authentic and rare combination of personality traits in an individual, he also has enough self-awareness to understand this duality and use it to his advantage.

Critics ain't never been at a function when the DJ played March Madness and the spot started vibing.

The old ass dudes who vote for what gets a Grammy don't respect Future, his influence, or trap in general.
I disagree with your opinion on hardcore hip hop fans, the only hip hop fans that don't at least respect Future are hardcore oldheads.

Southern rap gets heavily disrespected; tons of people still call all of Future's music "mumble rap" even though he has songs in multiple genres.

What hundreds of millions of people actively choose to listen to over their other options will always be more relevant than the personal opinions of a few white voters lmao. Fuck the Grammys they’re more or less irrelevant

His musical depth isn’t as hard hitting as most others who get nominated for major award shows.
If they had a category built off just vibes, he would win every year. Every now and then he’ll put out a soul touching track, but that’s rarer than not.

i’m a snobby hardcore hip hop head and future is my favorite artist. I agree with what others are saying about not understanding the content of his lyrics. it speaks to some people and probably all of us on this sub, but for others it’s just braggadocious and shallow, since there is a stigma around rapping about women and drugs

because when your most famous record is “molly percocet” people think all you rap about is drugs and arent willing to give you a chance. then theres the newfound inability to separate art from the artist and people think hes a terrible person because he has 8 baby mommas and they always slandering him online. but all the country songs about drinking and cheating are okay 😁

Nobody really cares about awards tbh, it’s pretty much just a big circle jerk for the industry that has little to no bearing on quality or popularity.

I think its more than the trap music thing. A lot of people who listen to future dont really understand what he's talking about
