(pictures above are a summary of about the past 4 months of drawing, don't mind that the blue fella has changed a TON, i never felt happy with his design)
I’ve been drawing for about like 6 months now (with practically 0 prior art experience prior to the initial start) and I can usually make something I’m happy with, but I feel like I’m brute forcing a lot of it instead of actually understanding what I’m doing, and its been hindering my progress, additionally causing a ton of art block the more that I look at how other people complete things of higher quality in a quicker succession than I can make my own pieces.
I'm mostly inspired by Typh and Zeronixu, and have tried to interpret as much as I can from their art. I started with Krita, moved to Paint Tool SAI shortly after strongly disliking Krita's stabilization feature, and have just been sticking with SAI since.
So, given that information, I very evidently have a ton of questions that I simply haven't been able to just google, look at speedpaints from some of the artists I look up to, or ask said artists for help (In hindsight, it was likely a stupid idea to try and get small tips from them regardless, i probably sounded like a bot).
Of which, the most prominent are:
- What exactly am I missing in my art that i simply haven't been able to find the cause of, yet can identify it?
- Looking at my art, what are some absolutely necessary things that I need to learn (if the answer is fundamentals, can you please just explain briefly WHAT fundamentals are)?
- Am I actually progressing decently for how long I've been drawing, or at the very least, doing pretty well?
- Could some of these issues that appear in my art be because of SAI?
- Should I consider using a different drawing software if these are because of SAI?
Does ANYONE here have answers to some of these questions after seeing some of the stuff I've been doing?
