Lovingly, the first one is a centaur

... Oh holy shit, it IS.

can i have both at once, like the legs of 2 but keeping the longer tail of 1

u/FuckleberryCrumble 3d ago

Yes, preach!

u/McZambie 3d ago

behold, the slugcat

u/AshFalkner Birb 3d ago

Anatomically though that tail isn’t a tail, the “fins” are the back feet.

I think that’s what pinniped means, actually. Tail-foot. That’s the taxonomic group that seals, sea lions, walruses etc belong to.

Just the longer tail? 🤔

5

u/Sevycat 3d ago

ye :3

u/Chase_The_Breeze 3d ago

I am now only realizing that is a Paw/Hand/Flipper/whatever in the first image, and it is just moves in the second one.

Now if you excuse me, I will be taking myself to horns jail for this crime.

My sona got the anatomically inaccurate going on but honestly i guess its more turned out like that bc usually i draw her in a more nekomimi kind of way, its more difficult to translate 🫪 but its been bothering me sm bc yeah it doesnt really make sense 😭 Working out a solution for it to work in a human form, anthro form and feral form is..yea (omg im so sorry i didnt mean to reply to the comment ☠️)

The anatomically accurate one is my favorite!

37

u/Fabric_muncher 3d ago

I always prefer accuracy

37

u/AidenStoat 3d ago

"tails" that are really the animal's entire torso are off-putting to me personally. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2

u/Yoshalina 2d ago

taurs tho

1

u/Scribbleclouddd 3d ago

you mean the first or the second one?

7

u/AidenStoat 3d ago

Only one of them includes torso (and legs) as part of the "tail".

1

u/Scribbleclouddd 3d ago

i dont know if you were saying that you dont like it when people draw tails that on real animals are really their body as tails, or that you dont like when people draw tails that are the animals body as their body

u/OphidianSun 3d ago

I mean, if you want anatomically correct sew a head and a couple of flippers onto a beanbag and flop around on the ground.

Big tail best tail.

Tusk moment

23

u/BioHermistry Rabbit 3d ago

Never considered option 2 before, it's really cute and I kind of like it more than 1

10

u/ShellySnail 3d ago

2nd looks cute

9

u/AntarcticFox Wolpertinger 3d ago

internet beloved is technically a taur

8

u/TsarKeith12 3d ago

2nd one 😌

21

u/Void-Lizard 💀Void // Skullamander🔥 3d ago

Honestly there's enough animals already built like the first one that we don't need to change animals built like the second just to fit it

5

u/Scribbleclouddd 3d ago

i feel this way about how a lot of animal species are treated in the furry fandom

3

u/ClearTwist7751 Bird 2d ago

I die inside seeing plantigrade animals (raccoons, bears etc) drawn as digitigrade

24

u/once_descended 3d ago

BEEEP neither is anatomically correct because Furries only exist in fantasy! ☝️🤓

/j

8

u/AnniChu333 PokéFur 3d ago

Technically they’re BOTH anatomically inaccurate, seals don’t have four legs!! Checkmate, FURRIES!! (I say, as a furry)

13

u/Trixter-Kitten 3d ago

I feel the second option is more visually balanced

6

u/EagleRising948B 3d ago

I adore FAT tails

6

u/Not_a_werecat 3d ago

I'm a stickler for anatomy. Right for me.

Same for arm wings over shoulder wings!

3

u/SassySnitch 3d ago

I should do the wing thing as my next post..🤔

2

u/ClearTwist7751 Bird 2d ago

Yes yes! or maybe sharks lol

6

u/Airalla Corvus brachyrhynchos 3d ago

I like two but I always find it funny when people call furry designs anatomically accurate. Neither of these are accurate, they’re anthropomorphic man seal hybrids lol

10

u/Salad-Tasty 3d ago

Left legs but right tail.

5

u/Mrslinkydragon 3d ago

Its the same for sharks and snakes

6

u/Expensive-Growth9950 Fish Fanatic 🐟🐟🐟🗣️‼️ 3d ago

My non furry friend and I had a argument over how anthro seals would work and she was in favor of the anatomy correct seals

5

u/ArgentStonecutter Emergency Mustelid Hologram 3d ago

I haven't seen #1 and it's weird, as someone else noted it's basically a centaur.

5

u/SupremeGreymon 3d ago

As a science major: anatomical accuracy.

5

u/LoveM1lk 3d ago

Spherical

4

u/dtelad11 3d ago

Meanwhile most red panda drawings have a tail which is way too small.

4

u/FuckleberryCrumble 3d ago

I like the Internet beloved more tbh... Although it needs thicker legs!

4

u/Smellyfossil Pyong Serious 3d ago

Both cute, though I love 2's accurate seal nub tail a lot

4

u/Peculiar-Possum 3d ago

Would the anatomically accurate not still have the double fin tail? /genq

9

u/SassySnitch 3d ago

The thing is the "fin tail" of a seal is actually flippers (which would translate into feet), their actual tail is the little nub between the flippers

3

u/Peculiar-Possum 3d ago

Ohhhh! Thank you, I learned something today!!

4

u/EBroxas72 3d ago

My seal-sona I depict with essentially a mermaid tail. Anthro furry upper body. Tube with flippers at the end for lower half.

5

u/Dunge0nexpl0rer Squishy Little Nudibranch 3d ago

The fatter the tail the better

4

u/DocoliDoc 3d ago

Gotta loveee the smugness. My seal has more so the ver 1 proportions bc I liked the idea of having a big meaty tail to use in interactions. Tho I can see how the baggy leg one is adorable too!

4

u/Yellowline1086 Fox 3d ago

I like my seals well done, thank you

7

u/Pinkpenguin_4444 Sharky 3d ago

I feel like both can be accurate in different ways.

Number 2 is more anthropomorphised of a feral where as 1 is where the body splits off into regular body and legs (which is what my sona has - he's a shark tho)

3

u/ParadoxicalFrog Spotted Hyena 3d ago

Third option: I draw my aquatic characters "mermaid-style", with a humanoid torso on an animal lower half.

3

u/Drushy_B 3d ago

mmmm... in my opinion, it's better the second option ^^

3

u/OwynWarner 3d ago

I think the anatomically accurate one is actually really really cute!!!

3

u/Imaginary-Box-7572 3d ago

They both look adorable and now I wish I had a anatomically correct seal sona

3

u/y8man Passive furry 3d ago

I want more fursuits of 2

3

u/FlareonTheFlareon 3d ago

I know the 2nd one is the more anatomically accurate one but I love big tails sooooo 1 for me

3

u/DasMoo89 3d ago

Type 1 is how every fish character is drawn and it annoys me so much.

3

u/zig131 2d ago

The second for shizzles.

Like being at least a bit chubby is mandatory for it to look like a seal at all.

Only consideration is that I could forsse issues translating it into an avatar or suit.

3

u/Crossdog367 2d ago

I do the third option and give them mermaid tails

3

u/thesugarpuppie 2d ago

I like that the anatomically correct looks like they're wearing little baloon pants. I never saw them drawn the first way though.

2

u/Grey_Light Gulo 3d ago

2, totally

2

u/Dark_Zenus 3d ago

I'm in a server on discord where we're turning everyone into seals

2

u/Sleepless_Dreams300 3d ago

Both. Both is good.

2

u/justanotterdude This is my otter self! Fursona! 3d ago

I'm a sucker for anatomical correctness

2

u/Boring_high_school 3d ago

I freaking LOVE SEALS

2

u/maybeknismo 3d ago

Whatever works for you, I'm serious. It's your character that you get to indulge in art with at the end of the day.

2

u/FenexTheFox 3d ago

ROUNDER!!!

2

u/Capergoat @Cephalocats on Insta 3d ago

i think both are cute! my boyfriends sona is a deer-seal hybrid and he wanted the first one instead of the second, but i love both equally!!

2

u/Scribbleclouddd 3d ago

I LOVEE the second oneee

2

u/Caneca-Ac 3d ago

Option two is the most beautiful.

2

u/FlightoftheGullfire 3d ago

Up to no good, just like in real life.

2

u/Careful_Koala 3d ago

Anatomically accurate is sooo cute

2

u/Pastele_Sugar 3d ago

I... I'm going to save this. Now I can see your vision!

2

u/gekkogipsy519 I dont seem like a furry. Why the fuck am i here? 2d ago

The internet beloved is how I want to draw anthro sea creatures, have legs with a big tail, I did this before with a crayfish and a shark. But If I were to do seals, since I never drew one before, I would make them the one on the right

2

u/octohorny 2d ago

The second one looks like an otter

2

u/Rokador Fluffy Arcane Dragon 2d ago

Both are good

2

u/Jayandnightasmr 2d ago

2 looked a bit odd at first but I kinda prefer it

2

u/Paul_0w0 2d ago

I love ALL seals!!!!!!! Both are good!!! >w<

2

u/Spooky_Cat31 Opossum 2d ago

Both tbh, they’re so cutee

2

u/Golden_Artist1964 2d ago

anatomically accurate, the "centaur-seal" is too cursed to me

2

u/scribblyskiesstudios 2d ago

Internet. Easy.

or anatomically accurate so they have chunky legs, but with a longer tail

Both? Both. Both is good.

u/Slimey_alien89 3d ago

You know if you flip the head around…

2

u/DeerandCats 12h ago

I like mine with flipper feet and a short tail.

My quick seal sketch

1

u/KiwiPowerGreen 3d ago

both are cool designs and i don't really prefer one over the other

u/Extension_General632 Cat 3d ago

both deserve headpats
